  1. For anyone that has stayed in these cabins did you hear the noise from the gym area below you? Did you find these cabins to be in a quiet area? Any opinion will be helpful, thank you.
  2. This will be out first cruise on the Explorer of the Seas. (Alway's sailed / preferred smaller Royal ships…D+ finally 👏) Looking forward to the shows at the ice skating rink… assuming there are some. Do I need to book a showtime for any performance? I guess the same question can apply to any shows on the Explorer??
  3. It has been several years since I have eaten at JR restaurant on the ship. If you have eaten there on Explorer, or any other RCI ship, was it WORTH it? I know there was a charge for some foods, and I guess anything else, there was an extra charge? Is that still true? What is the charge to eat at JR now?
  4. Does Explorer have Free Style Soda Machines?
  5. Hi! We are looking at a Panama Canal cruise that is on the Joy. Our one really big ship experience was on the Symphony of the Seas and we did not like it at all. All of the extra bells and whistles aren't really important to us and the few things we enjoyed were far outnumbered by the feeling that everywhere was crowded and we were constantly waiting in line, even though for meals and entertainment, I made all of the reservations I could, on the first day it was available. Quite a long while ago, the second largest ship we ever sailed on was the Explorer of the Seas. We really enjoyed this ship and didn't feel the crowding issues as we did on the Symphony of the Seas. We aren't foodies, but I like to be able to be seated fairly quickly, early in the evening in the main dining rooms. I like to be able to find tables at breakfast in the buffet, especially on port mornings. I like to be able to see non-reserved shows without having to line up outside of the theater to wait for the doors to open because it fills up long before the shows start. Any personal experience with the Joy would be appreciated, especially if you can compare it to these other ships.
  6. I was just reading the review on this site for the Explorer. It indicatedd that the Main Dining room is open for lunch. Is that everyday or just sea days? Is it open on the day of embarkation? Thank you.
  7. When our calendars showed up on the App, Perry Grant was the piano player and I couldn't have been happier. Today, he is no longer listed. What happened? I am so disappointed.
  8. I was just browsing the drink menus on Prof Cruise, and I didn't see Fosters as a beer option on any of the menus. Has anyone seen Fosters on their recent cruises? It's a favorite of my hubby! Thank you for the 411!
  9. Hello! On the Oasis size ships, the concierge emails suite passengers prior to the cruise. Does this happen on the Explorer?
  10. Does anyone know the email address for Customer Service on Explorer of the Seas. Thanks!
  11. So it begins.Just received an email from Royal canceling our Jet Ski tour next week due to safety concerns for guest and crew. I will be surprised if port is not canceled all together by then. Dear Guest, Out of respect to our local communities surrounding Labadee, Haiti, and to ensure our guest and crew safety, we're temporarily adjusting our tour offerings. As a result, we've cancelled your Labadee Guided Wave Jet Tour - Driver and issued a full refund to your original form of payment, which you should see within 14 business days. Some banking institutions may take longer. In the meantime, please feel free to visit My Royal Cruise or the Shore Excursions Desk once onboard to review options for your time in port. We're sorry for any inconvenience caused by this - your safety is our top priority. Thank you for your understanding. Sincerely, Royal Caribbean International
  12. Are there any pics? Looking for bed placement
  13. Ahoy! I want to email the cruise director of Explorer of the Seas in advance of April 28th transatlantic sailing. Contact info would be appreciated.
  14. I know this question gets asked a lot, but since I did not readily find it in searching...what is open for lunch on Explorer of the Seas on embarkation day in addition to the Windjammer, Pizza, and Sandwiches? We have already booked several lunches in the specialty restaurants during the week. Just trying to find something besides the norm on day one that is not an additional cost. On "that other line ... LOL " some of the specialty restaurants are open for lunch at no additional charge thus the question. Thanks in advance!
  15. Has anyone sailed on Explorer of the Seas lately and how was the ship (condition, entertainment, food, etc)? Thanks
  16. When we were on the Radiance two years ago, we were able to float easily between the two lounges as they were right next to each other. The Suite Lounge offered a free cocktail and appetizer time before dinner. Both had some type of food all day long. What do the Explorer lounges offer? Is there a free cocktail hour? I'm not sure where they are.
  17. We’re doing Explorer at Christmas and have a Grand suite. Is there a breakfast in Cagney’s or similar option? Can’t see anything specific on their website so thought I’d ask. Also having never done a Christmas cruise, is there much in the way of celebrations? Turkey dinner etc? Anything special for children? many thanks.
  18. I'd like to know where on the Explorer of the Seas a grand piano can be found. Other than backstage in main theater--this is regarding regular public areas. The question also pertains to other Voyager class Adventure--Mariner--Navigator--Voyager of the Seas. Thanks!
  19. Hi all, I tried to do a search on this forum to find the answer to my question, to no avail. Can someone tell me the difference between the Sunset Large Balcony vs the Sunset Balcony on Explorer of the Seas? I find it curious that the Sunset Large Balconies are less expensive. There must be a disadvantage to them. Any input from you experts is appreciated!
  20. Found a thread from about 4 years ago, so not sure how accurate that info is. we’re sailing out of Ravenna late August. Is anywhere likely to show them (English soccer matches). Whether it’s a sports bar or the pub (assuming this ship has those). doesn’t it matter if you’re at sea or not? Game kicks off at 17:30 local time (and I think sail away might be at 18:00 or 19:00). Would that even matter? I'm thinking I might have to make some sort of plan to watch a bit on my phone before I lose network coverage. (I know it’s only a game and it won’t be the end of the world if I can’t watch it… but I’m definitely going to try).
  21. Hi, I have received an email to say that my booked 7 night on the 12th October from Ravenna is no longer going ahead and I have been offered alternatives. I'm just a bit confused and wondering if anyone else sailing on explorer around Sept/Oct have more information. I have been offered an 8 night from Athens to Rome on 11th Oct - but no itinerary is included - Santorini is on my bucket list and I don't know whether it goes there. Anyone know the itinerary? It's not on the Royal website. Also, there are other options including one sailing from Venice/Ravenna on the 19th Oct ending in Athens (that does say it goes to Santorini). This is confusing because the 11th Oct sailing apparently ends in Rome not Venice. I know I have until mid-Feb to decide but I'm not a patient person and confused over here! Sarah
  22. Does anyone have the email for the concierge on Explorer of the Seas (diamond)? I have a few questions for our upcoming cruise. Thanks in advance for any help,,,,Sharon
  23. On the Expplorer, do suite guests have breakfast in Chops Grill if they choose? For dinner, will the concierge seat a couple with other people at a table for 4,6 or 8 if people choose? We enjoy meeting people in this way. I chose a 6:45 reservation as there were no 6:30 reservations (and I booked early) but can we be seated earlier?
  24. does explorer ship have a library ? love to switch out books after I read
  25. I would have posted this sooner but a couple of days after the cruise I came down with Covid. I’m convinced I caught it at the Charlotte Airport. Once I recovered my time was taken up with the Christmas season. Once I started writing this review I discovered I lost all of my notes from the cruise which really bummed me out. Some thoughts on our cruise on the Explorer of the Seas. My wife and I are in our 70’s, so this is a review from the perspective of old people. This was one of the best cruises we’ve taken. We’ve cruised most major cruise lines and this one was our 19th cruise but just our second RCI cruise. Of course there is no such thing as a bad cruise and most of the negatives we experienced were fairly minor. We flew in one day early and stayed at the Comfort Suites Miami Airport North. I chose this hotel because along with an included breakfast, it also offered complimentary transportation from the airport and BONUS, complimentary transportation to the cruise terminal. EMBARKATION Due to highway construction the complimentary bus was 30 minutes late picking us up from the hotel. It was past our check-in time of 11:30 when we arrived at the terminal. Explorer of the Seas departed from terminal G and the bus dropped passengers off at all the other terminals before finally dropping us off. Check-in was smooth and quick and we boarded the ship around 12:45. We headed up to the buffet for lunch but after two circuits of the seating area we gave up trying to a place to sit. I was getting hangry (angry and hungry) so we went up one deck to Johnny Rocket’s which was completely void of customers. We ordered burger, fries, and a milkshake. The milkshake was free with our beverage package. OUR CABIN Our balcony cabin, 7620, was more than adequate with good storage space. I enjoyed sitting on the balcony with my coffee in the morning. Our bed was comfortable and so was the love seat. The TV was smaller than what we’ve had on all our other recent cruises which included some ships that were just as old. Regardless, the TV was fine for the little time we watched it. CABIN NEGATIVES The bathroom was smaller than other ships we’ve been on, and the shower had doors and was like a circular tube that was so small, if you dropped something, you had to open the door to bend over to pick it up. I referred to it as the “Beam Me Up Scotty” transporter tube. Another negative was the absence of USB ports in the cabin for charging electronic devices. We always bring an outlet extension that includes USB ports so it was no big deal. The final negative was our cabin steward. He wasn’t very friendly and when he changed our bedding mid-cruise the top sheet he put on the bed was stained. THE SHIP I thought the ship looked beautiful. To me it didn’t feel like an older ship at all. My wife and I really enjoyed the central Promenade on deck 5 and it was great for having a drink and people watching. The bands and entertainment in the promenade were fun and enjoyable also. One of our favorite places to people watch was the Crown and Kettle Pub. The Café Promenade on deck 5 was the place to get a late-night snack or pizza and also an early morning cup of coffee before the buffet opened. Outside on deck 4 where the promenade deck was, it did not completely wrap around the ship as it was cut off at the front of the ship. However, it was possible to walk completely around the ship but at the front there was a set of stairs that took you up to deck 5. So to go completely around the ship, you would have to walk up to deck 5, around the bow, and then back down to deck 4 to do a complete circuit. I’m 78 years old and I don’t like stairs, but I can do them when push comes to shove. At the front of the ship on deck 5 there was an outdoor deck and a few steps up to an observation area that was at the very front of the ship. I thought that was awesome and it seemed that very few people bothered going there. THE CASINO The casino on deck 4 seemed small to me. We didn’t gamble at all on this cruise because the smoke smell was the worst we have ever experienced on any cruise line or any ship. It was horrible. Unfortunately that smell extended to the Schooner Bar. We always tried to avoid walking through the casino. I did like the glass floor at the entrance to the casino with its simulated riches. FOOD Overall I thought the food in the Windjammer was very good. The food served in the main dining room was good but not impressive. We had early assigned dining time and our wait staff was outstanding. The night that lobster tail was on the menu I was served a larger than expected lobster tail compared to what I’ve had on Holland and Carnival. We paid to eat at the Chops Grill one evening and while the service was outstanding, the filet, while tender was pretty much tasteless. That was disappointing. ENTERTAINMENT WOW, great entertainment. However, first let me mention the one thing we didn’t like, the tribute to Elton John that was in the theater. I didn’t like the choice of songs nor the way he sang them. I didn’t think it was even worthy of a lounge act. We enjoyed all the other entertainment on the ship. The Carnival Parade in the Royal Promenade the first night was so much fun. The ice show on deck 3 is not to be missed. The skill of the skaters combined with the fantastic costuming and music was absolutely outstanding. I believe they did four performances over two nights, go early to get the best seating. Dario El Gaucho did two performances in the theater and he was a fabulous entertainer. He combined comedy, bolos, dancing, guitar, drum, and magic into one act. I still laugh when I think of his slow-motion replay of one of his magic tricks. Don’t miss his act. We enjoyed this cruise so much that I booked a cruise on the Brilliance of the Seas for our 50th wedding anniversary in November. I hope it’s as enjoyable as our cruise on Explorer of the Seas.
