  1. When we were on Legend, there was a " secret staircase" that went from deck 8 aft up into the Solarium... Very handy for that morning cup of tea! This is not shown on the deck plan......I wondered if there was one on Splendour? Sent from my iPad mini 4 using Tapatalk
  2. First time for us on RCI. I have several questions. I wonder if regulars might help Deck 6.... is it noisy from deck below? Dinner at 6.30........ what's the latest you can go in? Can you book a table for 2 in the MDR? Breakfast in the MDR... do you join others or can you have a table for 2 What other dining options are there in the evening? I am sure more Q's will come to mind..... but thanks for now.
  3. Cruising on Splendour from Venice 9/12/15. Would anyone happen to know, on the Dubrovnik/At Sea/Kusadasi/Santorini/Katakalon/At Sea/Venice itinerary, which nights are likely to be formal nights?
  4. I am cruising on the Splendour July 11, 2015. I have emailed RCI and just don't get a specific answer. I need to know if there are 2 formal nights (for packing reasons) on this 6 night cruise. All I read is general info applying to the entire cruise line that there are 2 formal nights on 6 night cruises. However there are late departures at some ports (8 PM). I can't imagine there can be more than 1. Can anyone help me please? Surely someone knows the answer to this question! RCI just won't tell me.
  5. Hello all, I'm going on the Splendour from Dubai in January, I've been looking on pictures and deck plans and such, but haven't really found what I am looking for. Is there an outdoor section of windjammer or a pool grill or so on board? I'm going on the Quantum in two weeks and look forward to the outside dining.:)
  6. Super detailed review/recount of our 7 nights onboard Splendour of the Seas, Greek Islands cruise. Well hello. If this is your first time joining me on a recount/review of a cruise, you're in for a lot of talking, lots of pics and a whole lot of fun! Welcome to my cruise review. My name is Hailey and I'm addicted to cruising and planning cruises... And talking about cruises...and planning cruises for other people! Ha ha. This review is coming off the back end of another HUGE review that I've just finished. I am sharing with you my link from my last review which is mammoth- please read it me knowing that you have been warned! Ha ha!!! It talks about mine and Mick's European adventure aka "Havereuro Adventure"- as our surname is Havercroft and I love a good pun. We had a Facebook page that allowed our friends and family to follow along as we became hard core tourists around Europe! (The good kind of tourist!) As I said, Mick and I went to Europe for nearly 2 months. We completed just over four weeks on land before embarking on a two week cruise aboard Vision of the seas. I seriously loved writing a review as it put back so many amazing memories! This review will be a little bit different. Splendour of the seas was absolutely amazing, the staff were very very awesome, but as you will read it wasn't our favourite cruise. Stand by...
  7. Any thoughts ? Soot problem ? Is the balcony bigger than ordinary balcony rooms ?
  8. Our group of 4 just got off Splendour Saturday 9/19, following our cruise from Venice to Croatia, Turkey, and Greece. We were in Royal Family Suite #8532. Overall we had a wonderful time. High point of the cruise was the attentiveness, friendliness, and eagerness to please us by just about everyone. As Diamond members we had Concierge access and everyone there was wonderful. I was surprised to see that both Concierge and Diamond lounges were both very, very relaxed, and un-busy all week. Never had a problem getting drinks or concierge access, and we were really pleased at the frequent visits of officers to the lounges, engaging us and other passengers in conversation. We ate all but 3 nights in the MDR, and the service was attentive and efficient, and the food was very good, I thought. One slight disappointment was to learn that even though no, its not like having lobster in a fine restaurant, RCCL has not served lobster tail in the MDR in some time (at least on Splendour). Our other three meals were in Chops (Outstanding), Izumi (LOVED the hot rock concept), and Chef's Table (Great experience). Oh and by the way, the fresh seafood paella cooked and served poolside on first sea day was fantastic, miles and more above the sad version served in the Windjammer buffet on embarkation day. In all the ship seemed in good shape; yes, a bit aged but well maintained. Embarkation was quick and easy, as was disembarkation. We had an 11:30AM flight from VCE on departure day, we used a privately engaged car service (55 Euro for 4 of us) and got there well before we needed to. One MAJOR disappointment was DW and I purchase Premium beverage packages ($57/PP per day), and a big reason we do so, in addition to cocktails and wines, is for bottled water, fresh juices, and premium coffees. When speaking to the representative on the ship after embarkation, I specifically asked him, does this package include fresh squeezed juices and coffee from Latte-Tudes, and he said "Yes, everything included in lower packages PLUS the premium spirits and wines." Well, that evening when I tried to get a coffee at Latte-Tudes, I was informed that their coffees were included in the RR package ($22/day), but NOT in the PP package. Soon we were also refused fresh juice in the Windjammer as well. Maybe its just me, but first I was disappointed that the sales guy either didnt know his stuff or was lying, and secondly, it seems to me that a $57 package, at that price point SHOULD include better coffee and juice. Just my take on things. In my opinion, Celebrity's beverage package structure is simpler, fairer, and far superior. I realize that in preferring smaller ships and not caring about water slides, DW and I fall out of RCCL's targetted demographic. This beverage package issue fortified in our minds that we will most likely stick to Celebrity in the future. All in all, though we had a great time.
  9. We are cruising on Splendour of the Seas in November (Suez Canal) and seem to find conflicting information about the dress code. Does anyone know if there is now just casual and formal or if there is still smart casual? I'm fine either way but the other half doesn't really want to wear a shirt, tie and a jacket on most evenings and would much prefer just chino's/trousers and a polo shirt. He's happy enough to wear a tux on the formal nights. We have cruised with P&O previously and this would be first time with Royal Caribbean. Any advice would be helpful - thanks. Kelly
  10. Can anyone confirm who the current concierge is on Splendour and whether they will still be there art the end of the month? Thanks!
  11. Does anybody happen to know who will be entertaining the Schooner Bar on the Legend in late August (Norwegian fjords) or on the Splendour at the beginning of October (East Med)? We always enjoyed Anselmo Boles and closed out the Schooner Bar with him several nights last year in the Med. He was awesome. Does a current list of piano entertainers exist? Maybe we can start one from here...
  12. Hi Everyone I've only sailed on Royal Caribbean once, which was Liberty of the Seas, and really enjoyed it. I'm now tempted by a Dubai cruise in March 2016 on Splendour of the Seas, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on cabin selection. I was thinking of a balcony cabin, midships on Deck 7, say 7570 or 7560 for example. Any thoughts anyone? Many thanks Heather
  13. We are looking at a 2015 Summer Med Cruise. We've had it on our wish list for a long time now, and since Carnival isn't putting a ship over until 2016 in the Med, and our only Royal Caribbean cruise was during Hurricane Sandy and it was very unpleasant. However, I am a firm believer in second chances, and "Buy One get the 2nd 50% off" sales :D Anyway, both leave from Italy and head for the Greek Isles. I've personally always wanted to see Rome, and the sailaway from Venice is suppose to be beautiful, but after looking more into it, we could take a train from Rome to Venice or vice versa, so I'm not looking at departure ports anymore. Both are 7 days, 4 Ports of Call. Rhapsody-Leaving from Rome, going to Santorini, Athens, Mykonos and Katakolon. Splendour-Leaving from Venice, going to Dubrovnik, Santorini, Katakolon and Ephesus Which do you think is the better ship, and itinerary? I'm focused more on the itinerary however. Thanks!
  14. Hi all, just wondering if anyone has travelled on either Independence, Splendour or Legend recently. If so, can you please tell me if they had the ship models onboard? If you bought one, can you please post a pic? Basically, I'm trying to ascertain whether these models exist or not. I have an Indy model which I believe to be an older one. It is somewhat smaller than the Freedom and Liberty models that I own. Also, Splendour and Legend look quite different to the other Vision class ships. I'm just wondering if the models are specific to each ship or whether they've overlooked the differences and essentially just put the name of each ship on the exact same model... If anyone can help shed some light on this, I'd greatly appreciate it. :)
  15. We are booked in Category G1 Midship on Deck 3 I was wondering what is the difference between G1 and G2 in terms of location? Is G1 more sought after than a G2 because its midship? We are next to the Conference Center on Deck 3 and I was wondering how quiet our room will be as we are below Deck 4? I like our location because its close to two staircases and elevators, down one floor from the Dining Room and Down two floors to disembark. I guess the difference between Deck 2 and 3 is that on Deck 3 there are actual windows versus portholes am I right? Thanks
  16. Has anyone been able to find the dates of the sailings of Splendour of the Seas out of Copenhagen in August 2015 or the itineraries? The press release mentioned sailings to the Norwegian Fjords, and we are hoping that there will be a sailing in mid or late August that matches our schedule. Thank you in advance to anyone who has found that information!
  17. Just back off the Splendour after doing a B/B out of Venice, cannot fault the Cruise in any way, except for the Storage Space in a Deck 6 Balcony State Room. We had plenty of coat hangers for the nicer end garments, but T Shirts, Shorts, Socks and Pants ect we had 3 little drawers. This was the thing that made the Cabin Poor, not enough Space for clothing, we found we had to live out of our Suit Cases. The inside Cabins had all the drawers and desks, we did mention to the State room attendant and discussed with other Deck 6 Balcony occupants. So come on Royal add some storage to these rooms, because nearly is not good enough.
  18. We are due to arrive back into Santos at 8:30am but Royal Caribbean is advising not to book flights out of São Paulo before 4:30pm. I was thinking of allowing two hours to disembark plus two hours to travel by taxi to the airport plus one hour arrival before flight (and all this is allowing "extra time for delays") so. 1:30pm or 2pm departure. This gives us the afternoon back in Rio rather than waiting around endlessly. Has anyone experienced this arrival and able to give advice please?
  19. I was looking at the Splendour Of The Seas deck plan and see the Park Cafe and then next door is the Solarium Cafe. I was wondering what is the difference between the two? Can you get complimentary food items at the Solarium Cafe? Is the Solarium Cafe open late? From what the deck plan shows the Solarium Cafe is separate from The Park Cafe and it gives a different description of the Solarium Cafe. Thanks.
  20. I took a photograph of a cruise ship berthed in Shanghai on the 1st April 2009, I think it was the Splendour of the Seas, does anybody know it's schedule of that time. The photo is pretty poor quality hence my question, and it's nagging me...
  21. I know she's left the fleet now but can anyone tell me...this may be a silly question, but can you stand at the top and look over as it looks like there's high glass all around the top deck? We haven't got a balcony this time and I'm worried all we will be able to see is glass. Thanks Dean
  22. Hi on the splendour in a few days is there a Laundry room on board & can you take hair straighteners on board Cheers :):)
  23. Presently on the Anthem in Antigua and recognized the shape of the ship (Crown Loft) docked across form us. Looked it up on Wikipedia and it's the old Splendour OTS sailing as Marella Discovery --She looks in great shape.
  24. Hi everyone! I wrote a review about the ports (and pre-cruise) on my Mediterranean cruise on Splendour of the Seas in September 2014. It was my first time in Europe, and I had an amazing time! The review is on my blog, I hope its still ok to post. Here are the links: Pre-Cruise: Rome Pre-Cruise: Venice Port 1: Dubrovnik, Croatia Port 2: Kusadasi, Turkey Port 3: Santorini, Greece Port 4: Katakolon, Greece Hope you enjoy reading it. Let me know if you have any questions!
  25. A quick question - Does the Splendour have a Royal Promanade??? On one page we read it said it had - but on the deck plan there is not one there!!!!!! thanks Helen
