  1. Since I couldn't find it anywhere I thought I'd ask if Vision, alike some of the other ships, do they have an outside dining area at Windjammer?
  2. I am booked in an accessible cabin on this ship. Two questions please: 1. What is charge for Chops for lunch and dinner? 2. I have a balcony. Will I be able to get my wheelchair out there. (I will post this on disabled board also) Thanks Judy
  3. I will post when ever I get free WiFi and I am bored. From parking lot to stepping on the ship 17 minutes One of the four of us got the UP drink package 68.00 plus 18% tip. Rooms were ready at 1:00PM Cookies in DL are awesome Crew are very friendly So far so good I will be back when I free WiFi [emoji41] Sent from my iPhone using Forums
  4. Hope someone who is on Vision of Seas after drydock in a week or so will post some comments and pictures. We have never been on Royal Carribean and looking forward to a Jan cruise out of New Orleans. Thanks ahead for anyone who could give any update or menus of any equivalent ship. Helping a few senior citizens get their thoughts and plans together.
  5. Did I make the right decision? We were on Symphony this last March and booked Vision next year because of the itinerary. It goes to Barbados, st Lucia, Antigua, tortola and Punta Cana.. We mostly did it because of the last two ports. As far as I know, royal rarely goes to either of those ports which is why we're paying more for this cruise than we paid for symphony. We were able to get corner js 8088 as well. Is it the right decision? Thoughts!
  6. REVIEW: Vision of the Seas. 3/11 Introductions & a big scare: I like to call us newish Texans. We've been in the state about two years now after a job transfer. One of the "pros" on our "pro/con list" about the move was that we would be driving distance to a RCI ship now. We typically fly to South Florida, so this would be an all new adventure for us. Us consists of my wife, who proudly proclaims she married me for my diamond status. She and I went on Oasis together for her first cruise and she's been hooked ever since. We even invited 50 friend and relatives onboard Independence with us and got married that week. She's a stay at home Mom, and while being super super frugal, loves to splurge and pamper herself on RCI ships. We have two daughters The oldest is 10 years old. In kindergarten, she was doing rhyming words with her class and she had to draw a picture and write a word of something that rhymes with "car" She chose "bar" and drew herself sitting at the pool bar of a ship, complete with her seapass card and one of those Island Oasis machines. Our youngest is 5. She actually took her first steps on board Serenade. Got on the ship crawling, by day 7 she was a walking machine. She also went to Disney and as we headed out of the park announced, "next time lets just go on a cruise" We typically sail every spring break. My oldest's birthday, my birthday, and our anniversary all fall the same week of March, we tend to celebrate them all onboard. I have been sailing with RCI since I was a kid, and clearly have passed my love on to my family. We typically sail Oasis class ships. They have so much to offer families, it's always been our choice. Pre-kids I've sailed just about everything else. The only two classes of ships in the fleet I have not sailed are Quantum and Vision. When Vision offered a 7-day on it's first sailing out of Galveston is caught my eye. When that sailing happened to be during my kids Spring Break AND RCI was offering Kids Sail Free. I got out my credit card immediately. The cruise would visit Roatan, Costa Maya, and Cozumel. We had never been to Roatan. We stopped in Costa Maya, 10 years ago during the Inaugural season of Oasis. Falmouth pier wasn't ready for Oasis yet, so we went to Costa Maya instead. Only problem, the little man made port area was still under construction. There was literally nothing there but the pool and a few shops. So this would be a nice return visit. We were nervous about this cruise. We had some CC friends who sailed vision and absolutely hated it. We looked at the deck plans and yes compared to Oasis class, we were like wow.... there's a single pool up top (that kids can use), and a few bars down below and a rock wall. We could do Liberty, but the route was the same we've done on our past 3 cruises, we needed something new.... and Freedom class is my lease favorite class, (if i had to pick one) We have sailed Radiance class --- and were nervous about it, but it was such an awesome cruise. One of our favorites ever. But we cited the crew, they were fantastic and made the cruise so worth it. What's the chance of getting that again? Was this a bad idea? Sure it was a good price, but would the kids be miserable. We usually sail big and new. This is small and older. We prepped the kids. "This is a different kind of cruise... we will spend lots of relaxing time by the pool." Then we thought about that.... one pool... spring break in Texas... Kids sail free... We were going to be lucky to every get in the pool, we thought, there is only one for kids and there will likely be a million kids on board. "Kids, pack books, and kindles, and coloring books!" We're normally not so alarmist, but this one had me concerned. But we were ready. I'm not a big drinker at all. I love frozen mojitos, and that's about it. I usually skip wine at dinner, am not a beer person, enjoy a cocktail here and there but not often. Every year we buy the drink package, and every year yours truly goes 3-4 days on the ship without ordering a single drink. But with the down time I told my wife, we're getting it again. We'll be sitting by the pool, drinking lots of mojitos. So a few days prior to sailing I went online to buy the drink package. Thank Goodness I did. I log into our account only to get an error message that.... we have no cruise. Now I'm a huge RCI fan, but lets be honest, their IT dept has been known for a hiccup or two. So, I don't worry. I had just talked to RCI a day earlier. I called in to officially create a C&A number for my youngest. Even though she's been on several cruises. I just never bothered to create her own account. Agent added her to our reservation, so I know it's there. I paid in full 4 months ago. Well.... Called my TA the next day and asked her to check. Now this woman is older, she was my Mom's travel agent. I've known her FOREVER, and she's booked all 20+ cruises we've taken. Never have I heard her panic and swear and say, "I'll call you back" so fast. Yep I had no cruise. It was cancelled. Long story short. When I called in to add my daughter's C& A number... the agent accessed my reservation. So did my travel agent, as I called her later to give her my youngest new C&A number. Apparently, even though I had bought and paid in full for the trip months earlier one of them somehow, "repriced my reservation" Basically they changed the rate to current prices. The cruise cost more at then point then when I paid. So that night, the computer saw a balance due and saw we were now past our final payment date and it cancelled our reservation entirely. By the time my TA called in, RCI told her, "Sorry that room has been offered to someone else, the ship is sold out, there's no more cabins for them" WHAT???? RCI wanted to put us on another ship, but it wasn't driving distance, and we would have to fly ourselves there. Nope not happening. After a ton of back and forth and the TA blaming RCI, and RCI blaming the TA and I refusing to spend 3K on last minute airfare to South Florida Spring Break week, I finally got a call that somehow they got our room back and we were good to go on Vision. This non drinking man, had a drink during this process for sure. So..... Yeah this cruise has been one that we were super nervous about, and didn't have high expectations. But finally it's here and so we're ready to hop in the car, not a plane, and head to the ship. Our little, older, driving distance, Texas ship.... Up Next..... Day 0 Galveston!
  7. Hello everyone, Can someone please direct me where I can find the email for the Concierge for the Vision of the Seas. Last yr was MJ, I believe he is on another ship. Many thanks
  8. Hi all. We just got back from Symphony a few days ago and while on board we booked Vision of the Seas for next year out of Puerto Rico. We're going from their biggest and best to one of their oldest and smallest. The reason we did it because of the itinerary. This cruise stops in Antigua, St Lucia, Barbados, Tortola and Punta Cana. The last two we're very excited about because as far as I know during the March time frame this is the only ship with those two islands. Because it's in such high demand, we're paying more than we paid for Symphony which is tough for me. We grabbed corner aft junior suite 8088. Does anyone have recent pictures or experience with this room? It appears to be one of the most hard to get. The JS was only like $600 total more for the two of us than a balcony. Tell me what I'll love! We did Rhapsody two years ago and service wise it was awesome but definitely lacked excitement in some areas.
  9. With over 6 new ships in the next decade does anyone know if we could see the next set of vision class ships leaving the fleet anytime soon. Joining both Splendour of the seas and Legend of the seas being sent to subsidiaries and joint ventures. Or is there still a long future and part for these ships in RCI's fleet.
  10. We have been a two cruises, both Disney (magic/fantasy). We are looking at royal Caribbean out of San Juan next March. I keep going back and forth on these two options. The vision of the seas itinerary seems great with only 1 sea day but it’s a smaller older ship...concerned it may be more run down. Freedom of the seas, less stops...bigger ship, newer refurb. We love to be active. Always love our days in port. Kids are 8 and 11. Love the Disney kids club. Any advice? Points to consider? We have never been to any of these islands. Price is pretty much the same... we would do a balcony. I know I’ll get tons of different opinions. I just can’t decide! 11. Just wondering if anyone who smokes was recently on Vision of the Seas to confirm where the smoking areas are located. I read one side on the outside of decks 5, 9, and 10. When the weather is bad, I wish they had an indoor smoking room instead of the Casino. Thanks for any tips.
  12. how many formal and smi formal on 17 night crossing
  13. We're still seeing, on RCI web pages, that the Vision OTS still has Concierge & Diamond Lounges, no Suite Lounge. Just checking to see if the Concierge Lounge hasn't already be converted to Suite Lounge with only P & suite guests allowed.
  14. Hard to believe it’s been a week since we disembarked from Vision. Our cruise was a 7 day leaving from New Orleans and going to Key West, Coco Cay and Nassau, all ports we’ve been to many times. Our reason for picking this cruise was the opportunity to sail out of New Orleans which is something we’ve always wanted to do. My husband and I arrived 2 days before the cruise, driving from our home in Florida. This gave us an opportunity to do the tourist stuff in the French Quarter. I had not been to New Orleans since 1969 and the French Quarter looked the same as I remembered. Since it was Mardi Gras season, we got to see a few parades, eat some great food and have a good time. We stayed at the Whitney Hotel which was a great location, close to French Quarter and Riverwalk as well as the port. We parked at the cruiseport terminal on Julia Street which was very convenient and easy but a little pricey. Checkin was super quick, we were on the ship by 1110. This was our third cruise on Vision and I thought the ship looked pretty good. We had our traditional lunch in the WJ, food was tasty but not a lot to choose from. Cabins were open at 1pm and we were relaxing by the pool by 130. Muster drill was quick and easy, suitcases arrived and we were unpacked before sail away. Service was excellent, I can’t say enough about our wait staff and cabin attendant. MDR food was, for the most part, good but again, definitely fewer choices. Cheesecake and apple pie was extremely good. WJ is our go to place for breakfast and they had the best omelets I’ve ever had on a ship. We never eat lunch, so can’t say how food was. My husband did get a roast beef sandwich from the Park Cafe but he said the meat was dry. Entertainment was good, we really enjoyed the commedian, Kiki Rogers. We went to the broadway production show and the singers and dancers were good but. skipped the boogie nights show as we have seen it too many times. We thoroughly enjoyed the music by the Vision of the Seas orchestra and the band Rockport. Great for dancing! There were quite a few Diamonds and up, so the Viking Crown Lounge became an overflow lounge each night for cocktails. The CL was limited to Pinnavles and suite guests and, the rest of us could use either Viking or DL. We utilized the Viking but heard the DL was standing room only with a line out the door the first few nights. We missed Coco Cay due to rough seas, so to make up for it, we had an overnight in Nassau 🙄. It was disappointing to me as I wanted to see Coco Cay one last time before the commercialization of it is finished, but I guess it wasn’t meant to be. Disembarkation was super easy. We had luggage tag 3 and we were off the ship, through customs and on the road by 830. The only bad thing about our cruise is it was way too short.😂 Sherri🙂
  15. Wondering about the coupons for Diamond status on a 4 night cruise. We are are Vision in mid April and thinking about getting the internet package pre-sail. However if we each get a free day, as on a 7 night voyage, we really wouldn't need to purchase internet at all. This may have to wait until Vision has completed a sailing our of Galveston. So if anyone on an upcoming March or early April voyage would be so kind as to answer once you have returned, or while on board, that would be lovely.
  16. trying to find the email address of the concierge of the vision of the sea
  17. I’m disappointed that RC canceled our stop to Valletta for our upcoming Mediterranean Greek Isles Cruise in September 2019. The reason for the itinerary change was due to “some port congestion,” and “to avoid large crowds.” I’ve never heard of this as a reason to change itineraries. Are there any cruisers out there that have any input on this subject?
  18. My Dad & Brother sailed today from New Orleans on Vision of the Seas. My brother emailed this picture of some pre-packaged sandwiches in the Park Cafe. He referred to this as "gas station" food. I wouldn't argue with him. In 42 cruises, I've never seen a pre-fab sandwich wrapped in plastic. They should just put them in a vending machine and be done with it. The food & beverage manager has clearly given up. I'd be embarrassed to serve this to paying passengers.
  19. Attached are the menus from our 7 NT cruise on the Vision Feb 18-23, 2019. If anyone is interested, and sailing on her soon. 7 NT dining room menu's 18 Feb 2019.pdf
  20. Hi, Just reading some reviews of Rhapsody & Vision - see that there are no refrigerators in inside/ocean view cabins. Not sure about balcony. Always like to have a fridge - to keep water/vino cool. Is not having one a hassle? Have never been on a Vision class ship before & thinking about it. Wondered if the cabins are that much smaller than normal too. One reviewer mentioned cabin attendant would bring you a fridge if you asked. Anyone had any experience with this? Will they bring you a fridge on these ships? Thanks for all replies! NJ
  21. Since we have appreciated so much first hand knowledge of others I am giving some update on Vision. I wont be able to be live continuously but will give some periodic update for those who might benefit. First I will acknowledge that this is our 9th cruise on a variety of cruise lines and we are in early 60’s. Cruise left out of New Orleans which had a few snags as there is some construction going on in port area and we did not benefit from large clear signage like we have in other ports. We ended up parking in Fulton garage simply because we missed main port parking and the traffic was so crazy we gave in and used Fulton. It save about 20 dollars for the week but since we will end up doing tips to shuttle drivers we will not profit anything so just consider all that if you are using New Orleans in next few months. By far more stressful than prior embarkation parking on all other cruises......not meaning to be so negative but just a fact. As we expected, Vision is a smaller and older ship and it’s recent dry dock did not update a lot of furnishings as we have experienced on some prior cruises so we can see some maintainence issues.....nothing major but things you observe on a ship that has not had updates in 5 or 6 years. First and foremost I will say STAY AWAY FROM DECK 8 UNDER THE POOL........dragging chairs, loud music is easily heard......I knew this could occur on some ships but we wanted a jr suite so we took 8022 but I would caution anyway looking at this area of ship to reconsider if noise is a concern. We have stayed on Holland and Princess below pools but never heard this much noise so it might be the age of ship or the fact there are more young kids and families on this ship......but either way I have to express disappointment in this cabin so be forewarned. Lido deck (windjammer) was kinda typical buffet at lunch, not great but ok. Dinner in dining room was very good with both fish and prime rib entrees. We had requested about 8 months ago to have a few medical accommodations with extension cords for Cpap machine, distilled water, sharp container.......email confirmation from special needs dept was received...........none was in room upon arriving and took quite a while to get. We are still on mississippi and not yet out to sea but already got a bit of movement going on?? Dont have weather that we know of but just sensing some movement more than we thought on the river portion. hope to update more later as we are hoping to explore ship more tomorrow......
  22. We have the option of JS aft corner 7666 or GS 8534 There's only a $300 price difference for the GS --- but we really do love those big balconies aft. We've never sailed in a true suite before only JS.... I know there's a self service bar in the concierge lounge, but I think it's only for a few hours right? and mixed drinks & beer only, right? Only drinking we usually do is wine at dinner & frozen drinks by pool, so not sure it would be a big difference to us. I'm thinking the aft cabin might be cooler --- as we love those wake views. Which would you choose & why?
  23. What, if any, extras would we expect from this booking? We booked it for a med in July mainly because it was an aft cabin.
  24. We are looking to decorate our door on the 2 bedroom grand suite room 8020. I know most doors are metal and I can use magnets. I heard suite doors are not metal for some reason. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Specifically looking for if the door on room 8020 is metal. Thanks
  25. Sailing on the Vision soon and Have a question. Are there any 220 Plugs on vanity? I have a flat iron that is 220 that I bought while in Barcelona, I was thinking of bringing it to free up the 110 outlets. Thanks
