Breakfast attire in dining room

As far as enforcement goes, rules are mainly set with the real hard cases or challenged people in mind. Like the guy who came to the MDR on Formal Night (this was a while ago), very nicely dressed, nice suit, nice shirt and tie, but no slacks (yes, underwear, thankfully). He was turned away, really, really quickly and escorted out. I hope they took him back to his cabin.

Lol, but no, I really think that the guidelines are established to give folks a reasonable expectation of how to dress. And guidelines are what people ask for on a continuous basis.;)

I'm just curious here, but will "your God" be giving you a public response to your public statement/question to him/her? :o

You do understand that the phrase "my God " is usually used to vent frustration etc? What an odd remark for you to have made regarding this exclamation

Yes, enforcement is important to us, and we are disappointed when guidelines are not enforced. That is the extent of it, and as far as it goes. As to your babble about what we should do about it is nonsense as far as we're concerned.

It was not babble. It is what you need to do if you keep getting disappointed in HAL not enforcing their guidelines. If everyone just bitches and moans about it here, you will keep seeing it onboard. By talking to both the MDR Manager and the Hotel Manager and having them witness what is making you disappointed everytime you are on board, they could possibly take some action. Otherwise, how will you become satisfied that HAL is enforcing? It's just like at hotels - you have an issue, but you don't tell anyone about it until you get home and write your review of the hotel and how they never changed out the cream in your refrigerator. You have to talk to someone while on the cruise if you want to have a chance of having something done.

Your response to slidergirl's well thought out response indicates that these concerns you expressed are likely not held strongly enough to be worthy of consideration by the cruise line. You can expect that at least some of those other passengers that you are complaining about will more directly express their objection were the cruise line to enforce what you are saying you want enforced as you want it endorsed. Since you're unwilling to stand behind your complaint with some substantive action and they are, the cruise line would be well advised to give their perspective more credence than yours.

Standing up for what you believe is Integrity 101.

Okay, so what does that have anything to do with this discussion?
It demonstrates clearly that it is very common in our society for enforcement to be limited to the more grievous offenses leaving minor variances from standards without substantial enforcement.

I am not aware of any attire rules for breakfast in the MDR. OR are these 'made up' rules by those who think they know best?
It is very common for people who want there to be rules that match their own personal preferences to claim that such rules exist when in reality they do not. It's a pretty transparent attempt to make a personal perspective seem more important than it really is.

Agree with the substance of both of these Posts, and believe that KroozNut was merely disagreeing with the "over-the-top" approach suggested by slidergirl in her/his earlier Post ("Not being critical, but if enforcement is important to you:

Next cruise, demand a meeting with the Dining Room Manager and Hotel Manager. Express your displeasure at the establish and published guidelines for entrance into the MDR being willfully ignored by staff. Ask that they go with your to the MDR and stand at the door and watch who is let in when they are not dressed to guidelines. Ask them what they are going to do about it. Tell them you took this cruise because of the destinations and how HAL wrote of a specific dress guideline to assure an upscale experience. Ask for service recovery for their failure to enforce..."). If slidergirl was not serious in that suggestion, she/he should not have made it or should have expected a reaction such as KroozNut's.

FWIW, I'll close with what has become one Poster's all-purpose comment to (apparently) express agreement with a Post: "rah rah rah, sis boom bah... "

It is rather foolish to complain about something on the ship if you have not at least raised the issue with their team. More than once we have had a poorly prepared or unedible meal on an cruise ship. No issue, it happens. But we don't sit there like bumps on a long and then come home and complain to others. We simply ask for it to be removed and order something else. Same with any other issue.

One of the ways we evaluate any vendor is how they respond to an issue. Anyone can make a mistake. It is how they fix it that often counts the most. We had an issue with A/C on an NCL ship. To this day we are amazed by their response. It was fixed in a timely fashion and for three or four days we had people calling to ask it it was fixed. On two occasions an officer of some sort knocked on our door and asked DW if it was still good. Just try to get that response for a HAL, a Celebrity, or an RCI front desk person. Unless it is for a stamp you are probably speaking to a wall.

I'm sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find it. What is the acceptable attire for breakfast (and lunch) in the main Dining Room? Is it acceptable to wear shorts and a Polo or T shirt? I assume that this is OK in the Lido.DD

The original question bolded above to which a one-word answer would have been quite sufficient, satisfactory and undeniably correct ... YES!

100 or so posts later, people are still babbling ...

... or OP could've contacted HAL directly!!!

... and the answer would have been exactly the same one word ... YES!

I was serious. If something bothers someone so much that they continue to whine about it after every cruise or when someone brings up the topic of what to wear, they need to confront it right there on the ship. Otherwise, the whining is hollow and meaningless. As the Manager on Duty, I've walked to a guest room to see an issue, or have gone out and walked the courtyard when someone complains of the smell of cigarettes. I would expect no less if I had a complaint onboard.

As for the "rah rah rah sis boom bah" - It is usually brought out when a HAL cheerleader tries to defend... It is definitely not used when one agrees with a cheerleader's post.

What often baffles me is why questions such as this one need to be answered before you're on the ship? Asking in the MDR the first night or a phone call to the front desk would have answered the question PDQ. Or just show up the first morning "overdressed" and look around.

Of course you do - you need factual information!

But, but, but ... we all know the only way to do that is to get it in writing directly from HAL ;p

"rah rah rah, sis boom bah... "

... "100 or so posts later, people are still babbling ... clear.png?emoji-confused-1977"

... and on and on and on ...

And heck that way we don't even need to have any online forums ...

These Forums filled may not be needed but they certainly provide a lot of (unintended, I'm sure) humor that many folks have come to enjoy. So I vote to keep the Forums going and not let a couple of curmudgeons spoil it for everyone else!!!

Sounds like a plan.
