Casino Program Changes

Recommended Posts

I just booked Liberty for the October Slot Tournament. It sounds like fun and gave me a reason to cruise (like we need a reason...lol). When I asked Club Royale if the casino would be open at night while docked in Bermuda, she wasn't able to answer and thought that it would be closed because of being in port. I can't see why RC would have the tournament on a ship which would require the casino be closed. Particularly when you may have more gamblers on the ship. I thought I read somewhere that the casino could open at 9:00 pm while in port. Club Royale did say they would double check and email me in a few days. Does anyone have information on this?

I do recall the casino opened at 9 pm when we docked overnight in Bermuda last year.

I also just booked the Oct 17 LB cruise. I'm bummed cause the price went up $350 for the cabin since I checked last week. I wasnt sure last week I could go so I didn't book. Next time I will just book and can always cancel with no penalty.

CR says not many cabins left - lots of us are taking advantage of the 50% off lol.

Slot tournament will be fun

  • 3 weeks later...
WHAT????? Is this due to where the ship is docked or is this the new rule in Bermuda? Anyone know? Thanks!

I thought the rule was changed recently and the ship's casino could open after a certain time in the evening.

I thought it would be open too but the whole place (bar/slots/tables) was closed. This was on Liberty.

Thanks, maybe I read it wrong and it was something Bermuda was considering, but had not yet put into practice.

Bermuda.gov posting regarding Cruise Ships & Gambling laws:

Cruise ship gambling casinos are no longer closed, as they had been for many years until October 2013. In that month, Bermuda's Members of Parliament changed the law, to allow them to remain open, after prolonged intensive lobbying from cruise ship lines who had pointed out that this restriction applied nowhere else in the cruise ship world. MPs enacted Bermuda's Cruise Ship (Casino) Act 2013.

On-board casinos can now operate between 9pm and 5am, in return for a license fee per ship payable to the Bermuda Government. Cruise ships have to be in port for one night or more to qualify. The use of the casino is to be limited to passengers on board the ship only. No local residents or visitors to the ship will be allowed to participate in casino activities. Most cruise ships derive their on-board revenue mainly through their casinos and shops.

This was taken from Bermuda gov info, not from my personal experience.

As we know this could vary from ship to ship and dependant on whether RC think a particular sailing is worth coughing up the license fee.

I know from reliable CR VIP members they have been able to gamble whilst docked in Bermuda.

Happy Days!

A year or two ago I couldn't gamble in Bermuda. Last time (last year) I was able to. I have no reason to doubt randomidiot, but I have no idea why the Liberty casino is closed. Strange.

But heck, a couple of months AFTER they let us bring on wine on embarkation (not days or weeks) , I had my bottle (correct size) confiscated and they said they'd return it upon debarkation (I got it back before then). Sometimes I think things (esp. rules and regs) are more random than they should be.

don't forget to swipe your card or the little watch they give you now when playing on slot machines to earn the rewards. If you don't go to casinos you might not know to do this.

We were on RC in Feb. and probably won over $500. So yes people do win

money on the cruises. And yes I have been on cruises and lost the whole time.

But I only gamble on money I don't expect to bring home. And can afford to lose it. I never count on winning . It is just entertainment to me. I don't drink or go to the special restaurants on board. Others will have a $1000. bar bill which I feel is a waste of money. Those people think I am wasting my money at the slots. Go figure.

The casino wasn't open at all when we docked overnight in Bermuda last week.

Sorry to hear the casino was not opened while you docked over night in Bermuda. I called CR this morning to question the casino since it was opened on Explorer last year and curious as we have two 5 night sailings to Bermuda booked this year. They sent me a reply today:

Hello Linda,

Thank you for your patience while we awaited response for the ship on whether or not the casino was able to open while in port. Unfortunately the casino is not allowed to stay open while overnight in Bermuda. There was only one season that the Explorer of the Seas was allowed to be open while in port which is why there are so many mixed answers out there. But I do have a 100% confirmation that the Liberty of the Seas is not allowed to open while docked in Bermuda, at this time.

Thanks for confirming. No more cruises that involve staying in Bermuda for me! Hopefully you're a reliable enough source for the other fella.

Did any of you get the new 50% off on the Wine Lovers Cruise on Oasis Aug 29? I just can't go cause I have too many cruises booked but it looks great Nice goodies onboard.

Is the Wine Lover's Cruise something for Casino Royale members?
