If NCL offered completely non-smoking cruises, would you book?

I don't use the casinos. Otherwise, smoke hasn't been a bother to me elsewhere on any of the ships. Although I don't like smelling smoke, a brief whiff or encounter won't give me lung cancer I don't think and just doesn't upset me.

They don't need to make cruises non smoking they just need to make ALL indoor venues non smoking

And build a second casino that can be smoking and vent it outdoors and place it near the area of open deck space away from the other pax and away from the pool and make that area a smoking area

Let's face it.....the easiest solution is to build 2 smaller casinos or to completely wall off the smoking side of the casino

Have you cruised on the BA?

And you are correct 1 brief whiff probably isn't dangerous but are you certain that you have only had 1 brief whiff in your entire lifetime?

Or

Is it more realistic to say that in any given day in any given location that you get perhaps 10 to 20 brief whiffs of smoke?

You are incorrect here...

You can smoke in the gem casino and the reason you didn't know that on your last cruise is because the design of that ship is so good that the casino is not in the middle of things and actually has walls

Perhaps you are right. I just did not notice any smoking on that ship. I thought all smoking had to be done on one side of the ship outside.

Depends on price and itin (like any other cruise) and definitely not.

I don't smoke, and maybe I am one of the lucky ones, but I have never been bothered by any one smoking on cruises, ever. Never smelled smoke on my balcony; certainly never have been bothered by people sitting in a semi secluded area (where the smoking sections seem to be) on a deck smoking. On most cruises, I barely even notice people smoking. It's pretty much a non-issue for me.

In our group we are all non smokers and would never smoke ourselves, but other people smoking does not bother is at all. No issue whatsoever being on a ship with smokers. Just not a big deal. Never understand why people get so angry about smokers.

Yes, would definitely book a smoke free cruise.

Shouldn't have to pay a premium, however we actively seek out cruise lines with the most restrictive smoking policies even if they are more expensive.

It would be lovely to be able to walk all the way round the promenade deck.

Re Casino, Celebrity casinos are smoke free, and we do not set foot into any of the ones that allow even limited smoking. It's bad enough walking past the entrances.

That's the beauty of the gem. The casino is closed in and out of the way and takes some effort to find it plus the smoke from it doesn't waif into other areas

On the BA the total opposite is true. The casino is open air and right in the middle of the 6/7/8 atrium area and makes many venues unusable to those who want to avoid smoke due to the smoke waifing

Because the smoke is a killer and it doesn't stay in one place

Of course I have a right to be angry.

If a ship is designated as non-smoking, that would also include the crew. When Carnival built their non-smoking ship, even the crew at the shipyard wasn't allowed to smoke. The common denominator in both fires is the cigarette. The person smoking it is irrelevant.

Well said.

On our last cruise on the Getaway in January 2017 the person in the mini suite next to my sister and her family was smoking a cigar on the balcony on more than two occasions. I was in the cabin next to their's and it was disgusting. We called guest services each time but we don't know if anything was done.

Yes!!!

No!!!

i wonder if ncl ever looked into having specific cruises be 100% non-smoking? If they did:

1. Would you book one?

2. Would you be willing to pay a premium to book a cruise that was 100% smoke-free?

1. No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No!

I am curious about what percentage of the American cruising population smokes. According to the CDC, these groups are the most likely to be smokers:

Current cigarette smoking was higher among persons aged 18?24 years, 25?44 years, and 45?64 years than among those aged 65 years and older.

  • 13 of every 100 adults aged 18?24 years (13.0%)
  • Nearly 18 of every 100 adults aged 25?44 years (17.7%)
  • 17 of every 100 adults aged 45?64 years (17.0%)
  • More than 8 of every 100 adults aged 65 years and older (8.4%)

Current cigarette smoking was highest among persons with a graduate education degree certificate (GED) and lowest among those with a graduate degree.

  • More than 24 of every 100 adults with 12 or fewer years of education (no diploma) (24.2%)
  • About 34 of every 100 adults with a GED certificate (34.1%)
  • Nearly 20 of every 100 adults with a high school diploma (19.8%)
  • More than 18 of every 100 adults with some college (no degree) (18.5%)
  • More than 16 of every 100 adults with an associate's degree (16.6%)
  • More than 7 of every 100 adults with an undergraduate college degree (7.4%)
  • More than 3 of every 100 adults with a graduate degree (3.6%)

Current cigarette smoking was higher among persons living below the poverty* level than those living at or above this level.

  • About 26 of every 100 adults who live below the poverty level (26.1%)
  • Nearly 14 of every 100 adults who live at or above the poverty level (13.9%)

https://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/data_statistics/fact_sheets/adult_data/cig_smoking/

Since people who cruise tend to be moderately well off compared to averages, one would expect that more of them are well-educated, and between the ages of 25 and 64 - it seems reasonable to think that the lower percentages of smoking would hold true to cruisers in general.

Smoking overall is going down year after year - especially as the younger people are opting not to smoke these days. I think eventually - the numbers will go down to a point that there will be no need to accommodate smoking in public places. We're not there yet, but I do see that day coming in the future.

Would this hypothetical ship have extra fire equipment , safety and repair crews ? ;p

Unless YOU are ready to spend the amount of money that the Brinks truck picks up from each ship, except Disney, then you better think about how much the ships have improved the smoking situation.

They don't have those Brinks trucks to pick up anything but MONEY.

From the Casino's.
