Walking to Pier 66 in Seattle

I just recently booked on NCL for a cruise sailing out of Seattle next year. I've searched the forums and can't figure out one random thing: can you walk up to the Pier on embarkation day?

We've only been on one cruise before (out of Fort Lauderdale) and took a taxi from the airport to the pier. I remember having to stop at a guard station to present documents and wasn't sure how all of that would work as a walk up.

The night before, we'll be staying at a hotel within a mile of the pier. We'll have our 15 month old daughter with us and I don't want to deal with ground transportation the day of (none of the shuttle services seem to pick-up at our hotel and Uber won't have a car seat). So, I was thinking that one of us could walk her in the stroller while the rest of the party takes a cab/Uber with the luggage.

Is this totally unheard of? I have to imagine there are others staying downtown the night before a cruise and then walking around the city before embarking... I just can't seem to find anyone mentioning it in a thread.

Yes, you can walk up to the pier (or at least the cruise terminal).

Google maps street view will give you a great idea of the cruise terminal setting.

Which hotel? Let us know and we can give specific directions.

If the street view mentioned earlier isn't helpful you might call the hotel and ask them about what the area is like between them and the port. I remember that area being very congested.

I second this poster's suggestion. Pier 66 is at a lower elevation than the downtown area is, i.e. Pike Place Market. The hills down to the waterfront are steep in many places. There is an elevator to get from one level to another near Pike Place Market as well as another one that is close to the location of the Marriott Waterfront Hotel. (But, using that elevator, there is still a very steep hill that must be negotiated.)

Once one is at the waterfront, there is a nice sidewalk on both sides of the street that leads to Pier 66. I have been a guest at the Marriott and always have observed cruise guests pulling luggage en route to the Pier.

Rather surprised your hotel has no shuttle.

Sailed out of 66 one time, never saw so many cheap people in one spot before. Shuttle dropped us off and was amazed at the line of people over 500 feet long, all dragging luggage. Right of the main door were two unused Xray machines and a few porters standing around. Simple waive and our three checked bags ($6.00) got scooped up and were escorted past the sweating mob. Ten minutes later we were on the ramp of the ship. Two hours later, the line of pax had increased to 3 sides of the building.
