Shore tours now available to book online for our cruise (14th Oct from Liverpool), but not sure about the later cruises. We were interested in something in Tamatave, Madagascar and perhaps Salalah, but cannot say we are particularly impressed with any of them.

Hi Tring,

We are on this cruise with you and have been to Salalah before. To be honest, the town is quite a way from the port and not particularly interesting but we went up to Job's tomb and the coast last time and thoroughly enjoyed the trip so we have booked to do it again. The coach travels through the countryside so you get a taste of how the Omani people live and I thought the beach area was stunning.

We have also been to Madagascar but not to this area. We found Diago Suarez fascinating because the people were not tourist savvy so there was no hassle. we were shown the best they had which, to western eyes, wasn't much but they were so proud of their area and heritage. It may be that Tamatave is similar.

Hi and thanks for the input. I have just spent a few hours delving into Salalah and everyone seems to agree with you that getting out of the town is the way to go. We were put off the tour to Job's tomb as the info under "Is this tour right for you" says the roads are under construction and it is also described as having little or no walking, so we could be on a coach fro a long time. The Arabian Heritage tour is the most likely for us at present, but we have not booked it yet.

We have now booked the morning tour to Ivoloina Park from Tamatave, but that will still give time to go into the town independently in the afternoon as well. We also like to just explore on our own, so as you say, hopefully it will be a good base for that.

There is a roll call for this cruise, which I also posted on, but I put it here as well since there has not been much activity on the roll call. Hopefully now the tours have been published there will be a good exchange of info there and we can also meet up at some stage on the cruise.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hello Banjo an, it looks like you started the roll call last December. What details are you waiting for? The trips came available on line a few weeks back now and we have had the tours brochure a couple of weeks ago.

Good to hear from you though as the roll call is very quiet..
