In which months do you get the best chance of seeing them?

Northern Norway during the polar night is your best bet for experiencing the northern lights.

October, February and March should be the best months for seeing the aurora borealis.

OP asked for best months. You can see northern lights in November, December and January but activity is higher in October, February and March.

I'm actually going next January myself - Bergen to Kirkenes with few day pre- and post cruise.

You should be fine - after our February 6-17 cruise the waiter at our restaurant in Bergen said the absolute best month to see the lights is January!

Good luck - of course it also depends on if there are no clouds. We saw them 5 nights in a row once we crossed the Arctic Circle.
