We are arriving at 7 AM. We need to be at the airport, Newark, by 11:30 AM. The airline changed our flight. We currently have transfers with Holland America but wonder if a cab would be better idea. How far is the airport from the cruise ship terminal? What is the cost for a cab ride? Is this timeline reasonable?

Thanks

What's your exact flight time and day of the week you're flying? If you're going on a weekday traffic can be heavy. Also EWR is a crowded airport and we always arrive there at least 90 minutes prior to our flight (and we have TSA pre check which speeds our trip through security).

Assuming you don't have to be at EWR until 11:30, you can make your flight but you definitely want to arrange your own transportation. The cruise line may very well not allow you to use their transfers for that early an arrival time at the airport.

It's only about 17 miles from the cruise terminal to the airport...mileage isn't the problem, it's traffic, and the trip could vary from 30 minutes to well over an hour.

NY City taxis are metered so the fare will vary based on distance and time traveled. Figure on $50 to $60 base fare, Going to Newark Airport there will a $17.50 surcharge added on to that meter fare. You will also have to pay for round trip tolls, say $20, and with a 15 - 20% tip you're probably looking at a total fare in the $100 range.

It will be better for you to arrange for car service, which will quote a fixed fare, probably about $50-$60 to which tax and tip will be added. You should save a few dollars over taking a taxi as you won't have to pay the taxi surcharge, plus you will not have to wait on line for a taxi.

Many posters here are happy with the service provided by Carmel Limo www.carmellimo.com and Dial 7 www.dial7.com . You can also often find money-saving coupons for them on line.

What ship? What exact date? Did the airline change your departure time more than 30 minutes? Which airline?
