Roll your own cigarettes - plane and ship

My wife and I roll our own cigarettes and will each have 10 packs in hard cases (from tobacco outlet where we get tobacco and tubes) in a big zip lock bag. My wife wants to bring on carry-on...I had planned on doing the same. Now she had contacted TSA and they said just take bag out of carry-on when going through screening like we would with laptop. Even though they said that, do you think there would be any delays where agents might wonder if the tubes are filled with weed etc. instead. Not potheads/dealers, just enjoy paying 15 a carton instead of 80

Also I'm bringing $600 in cash in carry-on (for tips on cruise - 100 in 1s & 100 in 5s & rest in 20s for casino and where we can't pay with credit card). With this and the above, thinking that it might create more suspicion.

Going on Royal Oasis of Seas and wondering if they might have problem.

Am I being paranoid or could this delay us getting to our flight-on ship?

I'm assuming that you are referring to taking this in your carry on for your flight, not the ship. In my experiences, if you think it would cause a problem, maybe you should just stick to the manufactured kind and substance unlabeled in a baggie would send up a red flag with TSA and could cause you LOTS of problems, which you say unnecessary, but, to them nothing goes by them....and COULD send you right to jail until you prove your innocence

We are planning on taking on this flight...to eventually take on the ship. We haven't done the manufacture kind for a while as those have more 'stuff' in it (as if smoking is good for us:D) and ours is much cheaper.

Guess the rest of your response not exactly sure how to respond.....would it be better to put cigs in checked in bag?

I'm sorry, I just went to the TSA.gov website, and it does say that tobacco is allowed in checked and carry on bags

Avoid any possible problems.....Take regular cigarette's for your trip...Certainly you can make do for this short period of time and spend the few extra $$'s.

Taking only $600.00 is a non-issue...you can easily get change for large bills on the ship at guest services.

I'm not sure TSA has any proper interest in whether you're carrying tobacco or cannabis/marijuana. Neither is dangerous to airliner safety. But even if TSA's suspicions were aroused and a police officer were called to have a look, a quick sniff would do the job. People who roll their own cigarettes are so common that many of them must come through security checkpoints with their stuff as a matter of routine.

$600 is trivia. Lots of people will be carrying far more than that. Again, TSA has no proper interest in how much money you're carrying. It would be much more likely to be a police or customs matter, if anything - but $600 won't even register on anyone's radar screen. The customs reporting requirement for exporting / importing cash has a threshold of $10,000. There'll be people carrying much more than that around.

Not certain where you are coming or going from. Tobacco is legal in the US and $600 is not a lot of money.

If you are going across the boarder there are limits on how much Tobacco you can take, however if it is in quantities that reasonable for personal use your probably ok. You might want to look at the relevant countries your traveling through to get to the ship.

There was new coverage about a month or two ago where CASTA (the Canadian equivalent of TSA) was no long doing anything special when they see cannabis/marijuana. They said before they would ask to the see the medical prescription. Canada is moving to wards legalise recreational use this year and many are jumping the gun. I know it is legal in some US states, not certain how that works in the US, perhaps they look at where your starting and ending your journey.

Checked bag, unless you have a strong desire to inhale before you get your bags back on the other end.

This way it is out of the realm of worry for you.

bon voyage
