campolady Posted January 7, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 7, 2018 (edited) Booked on the dream in may stopping at Cadiz Portimao Gibraltar Cartagena Valencia does anyone have information on any of there's ports please GIBRALTAR - If you want to so the Rock Tour there are 8 seater minibuses waiting outside the cruise terminal; cost is 25 Pounds compared with 33 Pounds for the similar Thomson excursion (can be even cheaper if you take a taxi tour from Casemate Square). If you want to shop on Main Street it is a 15 minutes walk from the port to Casemate Square at the bottom of Main Street (the cable car is right up at the opposite end) or the port provides a shuttle bus at a cost last year of 4 Pounds return. Remember that you may get some Gibraltan Pounds in your change and, as these are not legal tender in the UK, spend them before leaving. Also beware that there are a lot of fake cigarettes for sale so, if you are a smoker, the best place to buy tobacco is at Morrisons. CADIZ - The old city is lovely and only a 5 minutes walk from the port - don't miss seeing the Cathedral and visiting the indoor/outdoor market close by. A HOHO bus runs from the port gates but it mainly just goes back and forth along the same stretch of beach as it cannot enter the old city due to the streets being too narrow. VALENCIA - The city is 5km inland from the port so the ship usually lays on a shuttle service with tickets on sale the night before at reception (was 5 Pounds last year); public transport is cheaper. This site gives very useful informationhttp://www.visitvalencia.com/en/what...ncia/must-sees CARTAGENA - The ship docks very near the town centre so it is only a 5 minutes walk to the main shopping street and Roman Amphitheatre/museum. A couple of doors beyond the museum entrance is the 'Valor' Chocolate House (a very famous Spanish company) which is a great place to sit and people watch whilst indulging in chocolate drinks, cakes or ices. Cartagena castle is an interesting place to spend an hour and the easiest way to access this is via the panoramic lifthttps://murciatoday.com/the-panorami...rt_3009-a.html. The Santa Florentina indoor market is also worth a visithttps://murciatoday.com/cartagena-me...a_14353-a.html Edited January 7, 2018 by campolady

campolady Posted January 8, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 8, 2018 Carolynne - my comments were made based on 3 port stops in Gibraltar, 4 in Cartagena, 1 in Valencia (should have stopped there 3 times but twice we had to miss the port due to bad weather and go on to Cartagena instead) and 2 in Cadiz. campolady Posted January 8, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 8, 2018 By the way, Cartagena is a great place to buy shoes - the back streets are full of shoe shops selling attractive/well priced designs made at nearby Elche (the Spanish shoe capital).
