We were told yes by the future cruise guy. Best to ask.

What the future cruise guy told you was only in reference to trips booked on board the ship, and even then it can only be done up to four months prior to departure. It is one of the benefits of booking on board.

 

Otherwise, it is my understanding that if you change your mind and want to change your reservation it is considered a cancellation and your deposit will be refunded in accordance the refund rules stated in the terms and conditions (which can be read on the Viking website; there is a link in the footer of every page).

 

Perhaps Viking will chime in here with the definitive answer.
