My BFF and myself decided to take this short cruise after I received an excellent casino rate, we are both in our 50's and have been on 10 plus cruises, all with Carnival for me and 1 with Royal for her. We drove or should I say I drove to the port from North Carolina and we did the Park, Stay and Cruise with Hampton Inn. The hotel was awesome, very clean, nice size rooms and very friendly staff (shout out to Maureen at the front desk). We got there really early before check in and our room was ready, the beach is just a block away with a trail from the hotel leading directly to the beach. I enjoyed the afternoon strolling the beach taking pictures and then later relaxing on the balcony looking at the waves, a great way to start a vacation huh? Well it didn't last:(

Upon check in we received our shuttle # for the port the next morning, we were #1:D, we got up early and had the free breakfast, it was a good choice of items, fruit, cereal, waffles, eggs (powder) sausage links, ham, potatoes, bagels and more. I opted for the waffles and they were great but the some of the hot items were barely warm and potatoes a little under cooked, but hey it's free, right;p

So then off to the conference room to wait for the shuttle to the port, low and behold they were right on time and like I said we were #1, they were great, loaded our bags and we pulled up to the port in no time. The lines were not long at all, it was one of the easiest embarkation I have ever experience.

Good morning everyone:D let's see, I believe we were on our way to our OV cabin 1301 and we were ready to relax a bit, get our luggage and settle in. Upon entering our cabin all seemed well and our luggage came really fast, it seems we were some of the first to get it, at least that's the way it felt to me. When putting our luggage on the luggage mat that's draped across the bed we notice something black, like dirt or dust and it was quite a bit, so we shook it off and proceeded to put our things away. It was time to head out to explore some more and wait for the muster drill, I must say it has been years since I've been to a muster drill that was held outside, it wasn't bad at all. I couldn't understand why the group next to us were packed in like sardines and our section was only 2 lines deep, but I was secretly grateful they didn't come over.;p

Finally, that sound we all love to hear when the muster drill is over and the ship comes alive!!! WOO HOO!!!

So, I forgot something in the cabin and headed back to retrieve it, but remember when I said our good start would not last. I ask that you please bare with me through this little trail as I assure you it was out of the norm of what I have experience in the past with Carnival. When we entered the cabin we saw this.....

Hummmm, what in the world is this, then we remembered the dust/dirt on the luggage mat, then at the same time it seems, we both looked up. I went into the hallway to see if any cabin stewards were around as we had not met ours yet, but the one guy we met gave ours a call. I got on the bed and hit the ceiling by the vent, low and behold I found the culprit!!! Our cabin steward came asap and was very apologetic, he called maintenance, they came and vacuum out the vent the bedding was changed and all was well, so it seemed.

So we went to dinner, walked around a bit hit the casino once it got going, then upon returning to the cabin we notice more of the same on the bed, so our steward called maintenance again, this time they put an over size filter over the vent and left. The bedding was changed again an we left out for the evening informing our steward that we would like evening service, so upon returning again the beds were turned down and we saw the dust/dirt again, but this time closer to the head on the bed and on the pillow.

I decided it was time for me to go to guest services as it was getting late and we were tired and ready to lay down, The young man at the desk was very nice and took down everything I said and the amount of times maintenance was called, he then called them again and said they would be right there. I thanked him and returned to the room to wait for them, well we waited and waited and waited, so it has now been an hour later and I returned to guest services and the young man called again and assured me they were on the way.

When I got back to the cabin, sure enough maintenance was there, he had a rag and was cleaning the outside of the vent and the ceiling, now I was starting to get a little antsy as I knew that would do nothing, I tried to explain that it was not only coming from the vent but also the seams around the whole panel, he didn't seem to understand me and left the cabin to get on the phone in the hallway, then he left, never to be seen again:rolleyes:

Back to guest services for me, this time I said I only wanted to see a guest service manager and I wanted him/her to come to our cabin to see exactly what I was talking about, (again please bare with me, I promise things will get better) but I feel that this experience should be shared as well as all of the fun time we had.

So the guest service manager was called and I was told to go back to the cabin and wait so I would not miss him, well we waited another 2 hours, yep!!! 2 hours and still no manager. I returned to the desk and this time I am at my breaking point, I did not scream, fuss or any of that, the look on my face said it all. The same young man was out of sorts by now, it was not his fault as he had done all he could, he offered to come to the cabin with me but once there he would not come in, he said he would wait in the hallway until the manager showed up.

Well the young man waited and waited just as we had done and still no one showed up, he called him again and shared what was said, he then had to get back to the desk. So I tagged along with him and told him to call the manager again and tell him I said that I will take a pillow and a blanket and my Ipad with the picture of the bed and I will park myself in the lobby where I would sleep for the night. I will not be sleeping in a bed with dusk/dirt and I threw mold in because you never know. I stated, "I bet he will come talk to me then".

When I was young and worked summers in hotels what you describe here always worked wonders getting the attention of senior management. I'm waiting for your story with bated breath.
