Have recently learned through a rescheduling notice from the airline that I shall have one night in Hong Kong before boarding the Amsterdam next March. Does anyone know which cruise terminal HAL uses in Hong Kong? Would also appreciate any suggestion for a hotel close to the cruise terminal. Thank you for any help you can give!

The Amsterdam is scheduled to dock at the Kai Tak cruise terminal.

With regards to hotels, my preference would be stay in the south of Kowloon eg The Salisbury and then get a taxi for the short ride to the cruise terminal. From this location, you will have the opportunity to see a little bit of HK in the short time you have eg star ferry over to Hong Kong Island, Avenue of Stars and the evening laser show. JMO

And a third vote for anywhere around TST, Nathan Rd, Austin Rd, Jordan.

Lots of accommodation choices to suit all budgets, also restaurants and Metro and bus options for sightseeing.

On our most recent visit we were also at Kai Tak and stayed on Nathan. It was a short taxi ride to the cruise terminal, actually shorter than we had thought it might be.

Do taxis in Hong Kong take credit cards? I will need a taxi from the cruise terminal, Kai Tak, to our hotel, Ibis Hong Kong Central. Do you know an estimated cost? Is this hotel far from the terminal?

Thank you for your help.

Ibis Central is actually in the Western District on Hong Kong Island. In terms of distance, it may be 20 km from the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal. I would estimate the fare to be around HK$350, inclusive of the toll.

Depending on the time of the day, but if you are disembarking in the morning around 9, you will need perhaps 40 minutes to cover that journey.

I am 100% sure if a metered taxi ride + cross harbour toll (and a small tip) will add up to $350 HKD, converted to roughly about $45 USD ... just about the amount in going from KTCT to Lantau's HKIA (airport) - estimated 40 to 60 minutes in traffic getting there is about right; and by local HK'er standard - indeed, quite far. Is this a fully refundable hotel booking, on points or discount or T/A booked as a package, etc. ?? Did you shop around for rates & other properties, more convenient to the MTR subway trains, buses & ferries - is this for an overnight or short stay post-cruise, with sightseeing in mind ??

It's an 7 or 8 city blocks walk to the Sheung Wan MTR Station stop, to access the rest of the vast system, make transfers and even catch the Airport Express - HK Station at Central, for a quick 25 minutes ride out to the airport, with free in-town pax/luggage check-in services, up to 24 hours before departure. Staying on the higher floors, you will get a nice harbour view ... but, there are probably similar boutique hotels all across the city. Another CC'er that just recently sailed on the X's Millennium was staying near a waterfront hotel by North Point on the other side, closer to C.T. and her estimated direct taxi fare was around $175 HKD - but, she was planning to do the ferry across at much less. A taxi ride between the C.T. and hotels in the Tsim Sha Tsui area would be around $100 or less and no tolls.
