Civitavecchia - good information about transfers etc.

Thanks for the information. We will be disembarking in Rome/Civitavecchia in September of next year. While I hadn't gotten that far in our planning, this will be very helpful in guiding our decision.

It would seem that taking a ship's transfer might be worthwhile.

John, I would do my homework first. It's often possible to share a pre-arranged cab or limo to the city or the airport, from the ship. We did this in both directions coming and going from Rome. One we arranged, the other we joined others who had done the arranging. In both cases it worked flawlessly and was reasonably economical.

Another suggestion if you have a late flight is to hire a car: there is a facility right at the port gates. We drove up to Orvieto which took about 90 mins, had a wonderful lunch and then returned the car to the airport in plenty of time for our 7pm flight.
