Cruise Critic Roll Calls on Cunard

Does anyone use the Roll Calls to arrange private excursions on Cunard? I have seen that a lot on other lines and am not seeing any activity on my Cunard roll calls for next year. I guess it's possible it's too early. But my Princess Roll Calls for later cruises are active with people talking about excursions. What do you think? I am wondering if we will be on our own for planning excursions, or maybe there is another place Cunard cruisers use to connect? If so, can you tell me the secret handshake?

Thanks,

Pat and Lyn (first time Cunard Cruisers, obviously)

Sometimes, it depends where the ports of call are.

If there are other places, we are not allowed to discuss them here I'm afraid.

There is another roll call for a Cruise which overlaps yours if that helps.

I tried to arrange three private tours on my upcoming October Queen Elizabeth Mediterranean cruise via the Roll Call and I’ve had no takers. In fact, the Roll Call is almost nonexistent! Like you, I have found other cruise lines to be much more interactive regarding Roll Calls and private tours.

Since I don’t think I’m going to be able to put together any private tours, I am using the following websites to help find smaller tours I can join. Good luck!

It seems to depend on the cruise and the passengers - we have done some really wonderful private tours with other Cruise Critic members, and some have been arranged at the last minute, so it does happen!

Hi Pat and Lyn,

First Welcome as First Timers to Cunard. I hope you enjoy your sailing. Which ship are you booked for.

We have had fun with our roll calls and enjoy meeting many wonderful people and are still in touch with many to this date.

Last year roll call we gathered about 40 people which was the right amount to get together.

We have even cruised with them again and enjoyed their company.

I have recently started a roll call for next June 30th, a year from now, the day after booking to get the ball rolling. I have already gained another couple by chance. I really don't expect anyone till the end of the year/beginning of the new year when there maybe sales to join the roll call.

It does seem lonely at first but once the roll call gets going there will be alot of conversations, ideas and exchanges of thoughts.

Unfortunately we always book ship tours and not private, so can't help you.

Cunard Roll Calls are certainly the palest shadow of the Celebrity ones. We're on the QE in October, and one cruiser has arranged a series of private tours which we're joining. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2539983

But on Celebrity last year, there were so many private tours being arranged that someone produced a multi-page Word document to record who was going with whom and where!

We are sailing Queen Elizabeth next July 21 from Ft Lauderdale to Southampton plus the two subsequent cruises including a Baltic Highlights. We are very excited about the itinerary and look forward to all new ports including New York City which I have somehow never visited!

Thanks everyone for the wonderful response. Smooth seas and happy sailing to you all,

Pat and Lyn

Hi Pat and Lyn,

So happy to see your are sailing the Elizabeth. We never got to try her yet but maybe someday. We did sailed her sister the QE2 in the past and enjoyed her.

Yes you do have a great set of ports to visit. Coming from Fla you will gathering a great mix of passengers from all around boarding the Elizabeth.

NYC is the Big Apple and a Big Bite to handle with so much to see and do. It's a vacation stop alone to investigate. But do your research and see what the ship will offer as tours or what you would personally want to see on the stop over.

I know CC'ers are great at giving advise. Imagine we live here and take it all for granted at our footstep.

Enjoy...
