10%. Which is a significant disincentive for many players to play.

My last 3 Gem cruises and last 2 Breakaway cruises the stakes have always been 2/5 NL with very good action. I would wait for the table to get some big stacks then sit down with a max buy-in(500) and try to hit and run. The 10% rake(max $25) will kill anyone if they stayed there long enough.

Cruise ship poker players are usually so bad that it is still very profitable to play even with the 10% to $25 rake. I always hear people complain about the rake but if you are a good player and win consistently then the rake is not that big a deal.

I saw an ultimate texas hold em table on Escape. I didn't play because I can't remember the right hands to raise 4x pre flop - I'm pretty sure that was how you made money in Vegas?

This is not poker. You do not raise ANY hands at that table game until the end.

You are, I believe, talking about a table game called Ultimate Texas Hold'em. You are playing only against the dealer and can also place a trips plus bet. There are also one or twoTexas Holdem tables for no limit play. And several tournaments usually held on sea days.

Tournaments are $80 buyin with rebuys and add on. Top 3 are paid. Deals are permitted.

$100 touraments are winner take all, rebuys and add ons. If total prize pool hits $2,100 (after NCL's 25% cut) the top prize is a free cruise for 2 for the December Poker Challenge cruise and one entry into the $1,100 buy in main event on that cruise. Anything over the $2,100 thresholds is awarded in cash to the winner as well. If the $2,100 threshold is not met, then it's a winner take all cash tourney. Deals to chop are permitted.

A third tourney is a $275 one table sit n go. Winner gets the cruise and main event entry mentioned above. This one rarely gets enough interest to het started from my experience.

I play a bit of poker.

However, the cruise casinos are too greedy with their cut.

I don't play on the ships.

You are correct; "disincentive" is the word I would have chosen.

10% rake, and 25% cut on tourneys? Yeesh. That's madness.

The rake it bad but I'd rather be playing poker than not playing. The game is beatable by an average player. Lots of calling stations so bluffs often don't work.

25% cut on tournaments is on par or slightly higher than land based casino's small dollar buy-in tourneys ($60+$15, etc). But not crazy. Princess/CCL run single table tournaments (though Princess may not anymore) where the cut is 50% on a full table of 10, but 33.33% on a table of 5. For a 5 entrants, the top prize is $500; for each player after #5, the prize increases by only $50 pp up to $750 for a full 10 player tournament on the PokerPro machine.

For me... too much like work.

And with the UBP, I would not trust myself.:)

Just got off the Escape after a week of fun. I agree that the rake sucks but believe me when I say it’s worth it if you are a decent player. We had one whale CS at the table (dropped an easy $10k, $500 at a time) and a few very week players EVERY night.

I paid for my cruise x 2 just playing good poker. And yes, you can’t bluff most of them but you can get paid with TPWK or 2 pair hands, bet big because they’ll call down with mid pair.

False.

That is a horrendous rake and is unbeatable long term.

If you want to play for fun, have at it, but the only one with the edge in that game is NCL.

True

But one week is not “long term” so if you’re a decent player and enjoy felting rebuy addicted whales, then the rake is a small CODB.

Now floating free, courtesy of seat 5, on 2nd cruise in as many weeks.

Cheers, CC
