Beaches?

We will be in Key West for the first time this upcoming March, 2019 on a cruise. I’ve read that the beaches near the port aren’t great. Is this true? Are there any beaches worth going to that are close to the port?

If size doesn't matter 8-) you could hit the beach at Simonton about a 10 minute walk form the port. You can at least wade in the water and have a decent lunch and a drink at Lagerheads ---> http://lagerheadsbeachbar.com/

I wouldn’t spend your time at the beaches here. Fort Zachary is mostly rocks since Irma, although the setting is nice. Be sure to bring beach shoes if you plan to walk or swim. The other beaches here also get a lot of seaweed in the summer and it can smell.

We have lots to do here and the water excursions are nice, but we just don’t have nice beaches.

The Florida Keys, including Key West, are not, in general known for their beaches. Enjoy wandering the town.

As stated, the beaches are not that great, and Simonton and Fort Zachery are the closest to the piers.

Pjk..you are correct...it is BYPOB and snacks, and they provide the ice & chest to keep drinks cold. I would suggest you take only plastic glasses that do not break. We did the sunset cruise, and they also offer day time tours. Here is the web site.. Cruising' Tikis
