The NOISE on the Enchantment

Recommended Posts

Hi! Our family sailed on the Enchantment out of Baltimore on 5/3. I wrote a review and mentioned "the noise" on deck 7. It sounded like a pipe banging against another pipe. I've read two other reviews that said the same thing.

Just wondering how many other people experienced "the noise" on the Enchantment and what was your sailing date?

We had a great time, other than not being able to sleep.

We were on deck 6 and heard the same noise, but it was on the Mariner out of Galveston. It was so loud it kept us awake the first night. After that I was so tired by the time we went to bed, I could have slept through a hurricane. Do you think it's a Royal thing???

We heard the noise in the cabin (7054) on the May 17 cruise to Bermuda as well as in the hallway going from our cabin towards the Centrum. Sounded like "air hammer" you hear in plumbing lines but much louder and long-lasting--you couldn't hear TV when it started. It was random and fortunately didn't happen when we were sleeping because it definitely would have woken us up!

We heard it the for the entire 8 days and nights! We were on the May 17th to Bermuda! We had a balcony cabin 7052 and my sons inside 7053. It was much worse in our room then my boys inside.

We did talk to Guest Relations a few times. We saw workers in the hall several times durning the week. One even asked my son about "the noise" and if he heard it.

I have emailed Royal Caribbean about this issue and have yet to hear back from them. Not sure how long it takes for them to respond. I emailed them last Friday when we got home. It wasn't an email filled with complaints!

We tried not to let it ruin our vacation but it was very annoying!

We were also on the May 17th sailing on the Enchantment. Our inside cabin was 4553 - right under the casino. There were strange noised throughout the trip but for the most part we could sleep. The noises varied - first we heard banging from above like somthing was loose. Next we hear a scraping noise like chairs moved across the floor. Finally on the last night the banging noise returned - could it been luggage being moved? Actually that sounded very different from the previous noises.

My informal results show these cabins on these cruises heard "the noise":

5/3 - 7062

5/17 - 7052 and 7054

unknown date - 7046

unknown date - 7585

unknown date and cabin on deck 4.

See a pattern?

Since we heard it on 5/3 and others heard it on 5/17, it's still happening. I wish I could upload a .wav or .mp3 file because I recorded it using my mp3 player. It did change over the week. Early in the week it was louder and shorter, later in the week it was quiet and longer.

We were the ones in 7046 and it was May 3rd sailing. The folks in 7050 (2 doors down) also complained to Guest Services. The artwork in the hallway actually fell off the wall during the banging portion of "the noise".

Guest services pretty much ignored our complaints until the Manager got involved on day 4. We were originally told that "it is a structural issue and there is nothing we can do".

The manager gave us the use of an inside cabin on deck 4 to sleep in for a few nights. To get that I had to make a lot of noise myself.

Guest Services told us this was the first time they were made aware of the noise but "a staff member" pulled us aside and told us there were complaints 2 sailings prior to ours.

We still enjoyed the cruise but the experience did cause some tense moments which we try to avoid when on vacation.

I actually posted to the May 17th roll call (and the next couple of sail dates) trying to give people a heads up about the noise. I was promptly flamed for "whining" and since then have received a slap on the wrist from admins (and had my posts deleted) for my not-so-pleasant response to the flamer. :o (bad me! hehe).

To their credit Royal did offer us compensation (they told us they were compensating several others on our sailing as well).

i didn't hear that type of noise, but my cabin was over the theatre (7012 i think..) awesome OV cabin....huge, BUT the sound from the shows...arrgh (my own fault for not paying better attention..) I was offered a cabin change...declined, only a 6 night cruise, i just stayed up til the shows were over..

i did get wine, fancy ear plugs and a ton of chocolate covered strawberries...

that said..i've been on other ships where the cabin squeaked and we had about 6 people PLUS the chief engineer (i think) pulling down ceiling panels and tightening the bolts...

stinks that several of you had OTHER noises...wonder what it could have been??

So it sounds like its pretty localized then.

We were on the same May 3rd cruise, but on Deck 8 starboard side, and aft.

Never heard a thing except around 10 AM, when they dragged something around up on pool deck above us.

Sorry to hear about the noise issue. You'd think being on Deck 7 you'd have a pretty quiet cruise.

We sailed on EN on May 3 deck 8 starboard center - in the stretched addition, and noticed two odd things. There were always repair staff a few doors down going forward, where the old section joined the new one. Perhaps just coincidental but your comment about the structural issue reminded me of that. maybe something has broken loose where the old part of the ship connects to the new one.

The other odd thing was a big red square taped on the floor by the hall entrance coming from the elevator on the starboard side close to the concierge lounge. No idea what that was... Looked like some sort of warning sign...

Thanks to all who replied. It does appear we had the bad luck of picking a cabin where this noise occurred. Although they promised it would be fixed during our sailing, it seems to have continued for another few sailings but is now fixed.

BTW, the compensation came in the form of a 20% future cruise credit that has to be used within 1 year. Cruised, not booked. It also came at the person level, so the third person in the cabin received a much smaller credit. Guest services told us it was the "standard noise credit". Standard noise credit??? So they expect noise complaints? It did take 4 or 5 complaints to be offered it.

Thanks all.
