Question on 19 year old being allowed into all nightclubs on Anthem

Hello All,

I am receiving contradictory answers from RCCL on this one so I would like to see if any of you have a concrete answer for me. I am planning on bringing my 19 year old cousin with me (23) on the Anthem. My question is whether or not he will be allowed in to all of the night clubs on board during the late evening/early morning hours. Per the RCCL guest conduct policy: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/content/en_US/pdf/Guest_Conduct_Policy.pdf ages 18+ can use the "Adult Nighclub/Disco". I called RCCL to verify and the gentleman told me that he checked and the nightclubs have signs saying, "No minors allowed" and that the 19 year old would not be let in. From what I have seen on other threads and per the RCCL guest policy, he would be allowed in, just barred from consuming alcohol. However the answer I got from the RCCL rep has me concerned and I will not book the cruise unless I am absolutely sure that he will be able to get into any nightclub at any time.

Thank You.

Should be no problem for a 19 year old to go to the night clubs.

If your cousin is 18, he is not a minor. In the United States and in most countries, those under 18 are minors and those over 18 are adults. Although in context of alcohol and gambling laws, those under 21 are often referred to as minors but are actually just underage for the laws governing the activity. In international waters, I am guessing that whatever rules the ship establishes is what you would be expected to follow. It is my understanding that RCCL allows those over 18 to gamble in their casinos, but requires them to be 21 to consume alcohol.

This is correct, except while in US waters, such as on an inside passage Alaska cruise, when the age is 21 to gamble.

There is a CruiseCritic article that addresses this that was published Sept. 21, 2017 and this is what it said for Royal Caribbean:

Shipboard Age Policies

Shipboard venues with age restrictions: Passengers must be 18 years old to enter onboard nightclubs. (There is a separate teen dance club for kids ages 12 to 17.) The minimum age to gamble in the casino is 18, except on Alaska cruises when it's 21.

This matches our experience.

****Beware*****

Contacted Royal Caribbean and they said on the phone and in response to a written question that the nightclubs and disco are 21+ at night. Pointed out that this is contrary to their written policy published on their website. It is sad when you can't trust what they have on their website.

The agent was misinformed. It is 18+ on all ships but 21+ to drink on ships leaving from the US. We had several 20 year olds on our most recent sailing last month and had no problems whatsoever, they were just cautioned at the door not to drink.

The venues are open passage, no real door to get in, and certainly no carding going on to enter. There were a couple of middle-school aged kids during the silent party in the music box, no one seemed to care.

They must have changed policy then, because I've seen crewmembers carding guests at the entrance to the night club venue.

That would work for an actual night club, but that wouldn't work with the Music Hall. As jasukkie pointed out, the Music Hall is a passageway too, so closing off all means of entrance to the Music Hall to check IDs is all but impossible. There are some curtains that could be drawn, but when there is a tribute band playing late, everything is open. You could control entrance to Two70 easily, but not the Music Hall.

No, it's sad when you can't trust the people who answer the phone at Royal Caribbean.

This is what two RCCL reps said when called, then this is also the response that came back from a twitter question on it and then today the agent called from RCCL to try and finish the booking and this person also said it. That is 4 different people from RCCL who all said this. They just lost a booking because of it to NCL. Figured the first two were just misinformed but by the twitter response and the 4th person from RCCL it would seem it is s the web policy that is not updated.

Unless you want to spend time fighting RCCL for potentially not letting an 18-20 year old in a club, if this is an important issue for you or your 18-20 year old, I'd just book elsewhere. Why subject yourself when there are other options that don't have contradictory policies. They said this was for the Blaze club/disco or equivelent which is the late night (after 11PM) option. If you are blocked from there you are basically blocked out of the nightlife.

When talking about all of the night clubs, my question would be what you expect. It´s not like there is an abundance of nightclubs onboard. IME it will be one place at best.

Typically there is only one venue that is designated for 18+ in the evening from 10:30pm onwards.

Yes it is 18+ despite what the people shoreside have told you.

I have attached the cruise compass from Harmony (you could pick any other compass that you like) and it clearly states under the activities that the late night dancing and music is restricted to those 18+.

Listen to those who have posted on their actual experiences aboard the ship.
