Hello,

we are considering booking the 10 night family Tundra Express (Pre Tour) with Royal Caribbean Radiance of the Seas for 2020 in mid July. Hanging out for them to release dates...

Would min July be a great time for Bear tours ? (Hoping to also see Orca)

Has anyone booked one of the family packages through Royal - what were your experiences like?

- we had a cruise booked for 2019 with Princess however due to my husbands work and not getting leave we have had to move our cruise to 2020. However, I like that we have the option of a sofa bed for our son in the cabin and one of the shore excursions on float plane to view the bears has a min age of 7! :) our son will be 7 Jan 2020.

Thank you :)

Prime bear viewing spots along with peak viewing times are listed here. Open each one for further details. Anan seems to be the 'best' location. When permits are needed, book early.

The Alaska Dept of Fish and Game is another good resource. Look under Links at the bottom of their page for viewing locations across the state:

If your cruisetour includes Tundra Wilderness Tour in Denali, you'll be able to get far enough on the park road to see bears, but usually at a distance.

Orca are hit and miss out of Seward, Whittier day cruises the or juneau and ISP whale watching tours. I've had good luck out of Anacortes WA ( about an hr north of Seattle) if I don't have the time to visit Vancouver Island.

You mentioned bears as a priority. This cruisetour only has one night at Denali, leaving around noon on Day 2, which only gives you enough time for the Natural History Tour ( Mile 30 of the park road) . This will definitely limit your chances of seeing bears in the park. Bears viewing usually starts around Toklat, Mile 53.

In this link look down the page for the map which shows the bus destinations in the park:

Just something to consider given your bear viewing priority.
