Good day all. My wife and I are doing the Avalon Luminary (WBLP) this June. Not experienced cruisers. Have only done 1 Mediterranean a few years ago. This will be our first river cruise. I know that you aren't allowed to bring any liquor onto a larger cruise ships. Are river boats the same? I'd like a little of something for our room for a few martinis along the way. Should I pack any of my spirits in a rum runner bag? Does the restaurant for dinner require men to wear pants? What is there to do after dinner on the boat? The site does say evening entertainment, but was just wondering what will be offered. Thank you in advance.

You can bring anything you want on Avalon. Since they serve wine with your meal it is not a problem. Even buying a beer or cocktail on board is not as expensive as ocean cruising.

Are men expected to wear pants?....what are your other options?...a kilt?😉 Yes, pants are required.😊

As for evening entertainment it is usually very low key, a local musician or group, or the on board piano player. No casino, no Las Vegas revue.

Bring all the adult beverages you want to.

We've cruised Avalon twice, and they're pretty clear on stating that shorts aren't allowed at dinner in the restaurant. The bar remains open after dinner, and there's a keyboard player there. There will probably be two or three nights where local entertainers will be brought on board for song and/or dance performances.

  • 4 weeks later...

Just remember that beer and wine is included with your lunch and dinner and they have great happy hour prices at the bar. So you don't need to smuggle anything aboard but no one cares if you do.
