SIM card New Zealand

Anyone know where I can pick up a SIM card along out cruise, preferably near the beginning, from a New Zealand cell phone provider? I want to get some international calling for our 13 night cruise. In Australia I plan on grabbing one at the airport but since we are not flying but cruising to New Zealand just wondered if anyone had purchased one. And if so, how was coverage while cruising around New Zealand or was it limited to ports only?

I ordered a sim from simcorner for a cruise in January of this year. Worked really well on land but lost reception once at sea.

Coverage around NZ will be extremely limited due to low population base around coastline. However if you do need one they are readily available anywhere close to the port. Why not use Viber or Skype whilst in the ship
