Do I need to bring different money for each country??

Doing Amsterdam to Budapest and not sure what to bring. As an American, we usually bring EUROS etc; but not sure if going to Germany, Hungary, Budapest their money would be better.

Does anyone know??

Germany uses the Euro. Budapest is IN Hungary and uses the forint. There are a number of threads dealing with currency issues. You can generally get by with Euros in Hungary, but you won't get a very good exchange rate. If you are spending some time there, you probably want forints. If you are doing expensive shopping you can probably use a credit card. It all depends on what you plan to do.

The currency for Hungary is the forint - you can use the ATM to get local currency in Budapest (this is where you will get the best rate of exchange) OR order some from your bank before you go.

Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted in Budapest.

If you are a member of AAA, you can order your foreign currency online and it will be delivered to your home.

For the purposes of the OP, with the exception of Budapest, euros will be the local currency. Holland, Austria & Germany all use the euro.

The one to watch for is travelling from a non-Schengen country, via a Schengen country to another Schengen country, which I did 2 years ago, flying from Israel to Spain via Athens. You need time for the connection, because you go through passport control in Athens and it can take a long time, then you go through security again (at least I did in Athens; it doesn't always happen) before heading to your next flight.

It does list the 28 EU countries but does not list all the Schengen countries (eg Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and de facto members Monaco, Vatican City and San Marino), it doesn’t list countries that do use the Euro (eg Andorra, Montenegro, Monaco, Vatican City, San Marino) and does list countries as using the Euro when they don’t (eg Romania, Bulgaria).

BTW Amsterdam to Budapest may well have a stop in Slovakia (which does use Euros) and might possibly have an excursion into Czech Republic (which is not on Euros).
