I got an upgrade offer

Never before, but today, I received an email about specials. I went to carnival to see what they meant. Went back to read the email to find it was the upgrade fairy specifically targeting me!

We are sailing thanksgiving day for 4 days and they offered me to upgrade to a balcony, for 420.00 extra. I declined, but it was good to know that we do get offers.

It gave the option to keep what I have, which is a standard ocean view on the valor or change to balcony. I chose keep what I have and it told me that the offer would be invalid once I clicked that.

Since this is a short cruise and we are traveling with a large group, I don’t need a balcony. 5be8313524dbf35b56a02a9927030331.jpg

We have been getting an upgrade email almost everyday for the last couple weeks for our November cruise. They actually called my mom today and I called back ( they did not say which cruise in the voicemail and we were hoping it was for the one leaving Monday). $218 to upgrade our deluxe OV to a balcony or $1400 to upgrade to a suite. We declined. They really want our room because it has the two bathrooms. We would not mind upgrading to a balcony however the price is exactly what I would pay bookng it myself.

Pardon my ignorance with this - there are regular cabins with 2 bathrooms? Which ship and which rooms?? Just wondering for future cruising. Thanks!!

We are booked on the Dream. Don't quote me but I am pretty sure all the ships after the Dream have these rooms. Our is a Deluxe Ocean-view. One is a normal restroom and the other has a sink and bathtub. If you search "Deluxe oceanview" on these boards someone has posted pictures of them.

I also got an email about an upgrade from our interior to a balcony (same deck -8) on our 12 day Journeys cruise. They wanted another $1600. I thought the cruise was already bad enough at $2700 for the interior. No way was I paying another $1600 just to sit outside the room. I like the air conditioning too much.

They are not regular cabins. They are called suites.

We had a Family Harbor suite on the Vista. It has a couch that folds out to a double bed plus the king size bed like normal. 2 tv's and 2 bathrooms. One bathroom is just like the normal cabins bathroom with the other is a smaller tub with sink.

I don’t know about the Vista class, but on the Dream class ships (Dream, Magic, Breeze) they have Deluxe Oceanview rooms. They’re VERY nice for getting ready when you have multiple girls in a cabin (I say girls because my husband has to wait on three of them when he cruises:p).

We have cruised 5 times and have our 6th booked for January. This time we decided to save a little money and book an interior room. We have received 2 upgrade offers on this cruise, none on any prior. We accepted the first offer of moving from an interior on deck 2 to a 4J on Empress. That only costs us $24. Last night, our second offer came through. This one was to move to a balcony on empress for $426, we declined that offer. I probably would've accepted it for a cheaper price since we've never had a balcony, but I'm looking forward to our first 4J so no biggie.

Vista also has deluxe ov rooms with the 2 bathrooms. We had originally booked it and usually always do as you can put 5 in a room. We were offered an upgrade to the suite however and having never been in a balcony we did it. Backfired though because now I like my balcony.

The deluxe ocean view on the breeze has 2 restrooms. It’s not only suites, these are ocean view. It does help to have an extra one to use. When we last cruised the breeze, we had two connecting deluxe ocean view cabins so had a total of 4 restrooms. Although the extra sink and tub was nice, I would love to have two full bathrooms in the cabin. I always go to the spa/gym and use their shower and steam room after my workout and try to time it for the evening before dinner.

We did something similar, for the upcoming breeze cruise, I was able to find two 4K cabins and booked those because I booked early. The only thing I don’t like is no couch , not a deal breaker for me but my husband is used to having a couch and has asked about one the last two cruises. He needs another place to throw things on, instead of putting them where they belong, just like at home (lol).

I have not been asked to move yet but Know these are highly coveted. If they offer me an upgrade to release the rooms, it has to be super good and 30.00, I would consider.

The ship is really full , I have been checking several times a week as we have another cabin for our family that is a 4 person interior. I am hoping to be able to move them closer and thought more would come open right after final payment but that has not happened.

Just in case you didn't know this already, when you get these offers, you can see what other cabins are available as an upgrade/upsell. On the left, where it lists the specific cabin they're offering, with the deck and location, you can change those by clicking on the blue "buttons." If there is another cabin, even on another deck or in another location, or even a different category available for upgrade, it will then show that with the adjusted price for said upsell.

For example, we've received three offers on our upcoming Horizon cruise for December (none of which we've taken), but each time I was like "hmm, not too excited about deck X, let's see what else is available," and it was interesting to see what other offers might be lurking.

I've never gotten one of the enails, but I have gotten a phone call. This time my friend who is sailing with us got an up offer yo go from deck 8 balcony to deck 12 Spa balcony for our 7 day cruise on the Magic. The cost was total of $150. They took it.

We just upgraded ourselves to be near them (we were next door to each other on devk 8) and also paid $150 more.

Omg thank you for this.

I did not know but did wonder but didn’t want to click anything. Next time I will know to explore further. Yes that might have changed things if I could have gotten a lido cabin for this cruise. It’s a short family cruise, not relaxing, so I would be open to any type of cabin but best to be on another level if so.

I love being able to counter offer ;)

No problem. To tell you the truth, I was a little concerned about clicking on anything the 1st time I tried it ;) Then I saw that it was almost like booking any cruise online.

I got an upgrade offer today to move from an extended balcony to a suite for $458. I did a mock booking and found that the suite was only $302 more than what I had booked the balcony cabin for. The upgrade offer was not such a good deal.

I, personally, will not pay more for an upgrade. I specifically book only inside cabins to save money, so paying an additional $400-1,000 is certainly not appealing to me. I just get my ocean fix by going up on deck. Balconies are nice, don’t get me wrong. Just not worth the added cost, when we spend so little time in our cabin.

We've been on a few cruises but until now had never been involved in "upgrades". I'd heard of them of course but just booked a cabin, cruised and went home. Wasn't really sure what it meant but for our upcoming cruise, I booked a balcony cabin and clicked the "optional upgrade" box or something like that. A few weeks ago I received a email stating we had been upgraded and I had X number of days to decline if we didn't want to move. I called and asked what that was about. Turns out for the same original rate, they moved us to a "mini-suite". Bigger cabin with a tub instead of a shower. and a sitting area with a sofa. Two decks lower but fine by me. Is this something common or did we just get lucky? Is this what they mean by upgrade fairy?

Wow. It doesn't sound like the upsell offers being made lately are very good. Thanks everyone for sharing the info about how to see all the upsell options on the website. I've been doing casino offers only the past few years, and since only booking casino offers, I never get these upsell offers anymore which is understandable. It's interesting to learn about how they're doing the upsell offers now. The last times I got them, which was several years ago, it was always via phone, or email where I had to call back.

Darn it! I didn’t know this. I received an upsell offer and didn’t like the location (moving from midship Empress deck interior to a low deck balcony at the back of the ship). I wish I would’ve known about that option, I might have taken that upsell! Are the other available options similar to the one that is originally offered?

Do these upgrade emails only occur after you have made final payment? and is this image you showed on this thread the actual email or when you logged into Carnival? Just curious!
I still owe a bit and we received our upgrade.

No I still owe about 50% on my cruise when I got an upgrade email. I could move up a category in a balcony for $36 or a spa balcony for $120. As a solo cruiser I priced a spa balcony when first booking it was more than I was willing to pay. With that cost, still cheaper and since I was looking at a spa pass, still cheaper. Took advantage of it and excited
