Cheap Eats by Waikiki Marriott

We will be on the POA cruise in 2 weeks, and will be staying the night before at the Waikiki Marriott. We understand the food is rather expensive at restaurants. Not quite sure where the Marriott is located relative to other locations. Are there any restaurants/dining options within walking distance from the Marriott that are on the less expensive side.

A general idea of what price range you are envisioning would be helpful. Yes, things are more expensive in Hawaii, but how much more something might cost is quite variable. Something that might cost $10 at home, might cost $12 or $13 in Hawaii. Higher end restaurants will probably have a higher differential.

I don't of much that you would classify as cheap in that immediate area but Lulu's is about a block away and they have good food. Nice atmosphere, open air with some live entertainment in the evenings. Good breakfast too.

There are a lot of restaurants right around by the Marriott. The Cheesecake Factory is only a block away but the line ups for dinner are long. We’ve gone for lunch instead. Also the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Centre right by the Cheesecake Factory has a great food court which is very reasonable. You should definitely check it out.

We found Dukes Lane Market & Eatery to be very nice. It's not on the main strip but about one block away. Just walk down Dukes Lane and it will on the left side at the corner. You can google it for their menus.

Kapahulu Avenue has several good places that are inexpensive by Waikiki standards. Just around the corner from the Marriott at 134 Kapahulu Ave is a 50's style hamburger place - Teddy's Bigger Burgers. Side Street Inn at 614 Kapahulu Ave #100 is a bit further up and has outstanding food with table service. An all time favorite is Rainbow Drive Inn. There are some picnic tables if you want to eat there, or you can take your food and eat on the beach! Rainbow is actually on a side street off Kapahulu: 3308 Kanaina Ave. Both Side Street and Rainbow have traditional Hawaiian food and are popular with the locals. Google their names and you can see the menus and prices. There are a lot more restaurants on Kapahulu, but these three are my favorites.
