I thought Hapag-Lloyd was a container carrier....you see them on the highways (on semi-trucks) and ship's all around the world!

Hapag-Lloyd is a transportation company that includes a cargo container shipping line and a cruise line.

Similarly, Crystal Cruises is owned by NYK (Nippon Yusen Kaisha) which is one of the largest shipping companies in the world. You'll see their cargo ships in many ports. They also operate the Asuka II (former Crystal Harmony) in Japan.

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has an interesting history! It is today a 100 percent-owned subsidiary of TUI AG, which is Europe's leading travel group. It is the result of the merger in 1970 of two of Germany's oldest steamship companies, Hapag (Hamburg-Amerikanische Packfahrt-Actien-Gesellschaft or Hamburg America Line) and Norddeutscher Lloyd (NDL - North German Lloyd). Both companies were founded in the 1840's to carry passengers and freight between what is now Germany and the United States.
