Do you win on slots in casino?

My husband and I usually spend a lot of time playing slots on Royal Caribbean.

We have an upcoming cruise on Infinity. In the past, we have not had enough wins in Celebrity casinos to justify spending a lot of time there. Has anyone won on slots in Celebrity casinos?

While I haven't won any significant amounts on Celebrity, we've had a couple of trips where we've done ok ...meaning we pretty much broke even. I have seen others win sizable jackpots on the Infinity, though on a cruise a couple of years ago.

As Steve Wynn said "The only way to win at the casino is to own the casino".

The man knows about what he speaks.

Craps has the best odds of any game in any casino. I don't understand the game, but I'm told that a bet placed 'behind the Pass line' is as close to a player advantage as you can get.

Alternatively, playing single-deck Blackjack 'by the book' has the smallest house advantage, but as stated up-thread, the only way to win is to own the casino! Sure, someone can get lucky on a single occasion, but ultimately, any long-term player will lose.

Oh, and contrary to popular belief, casinos LOVE a big winner! It's the occasional big win that keeps people playing.

So what game would be the best odds on the ship?

Craps always has the best odds on the ship. I have seen people do pretty well on poker before. I love the slots and video poker is my absolute favorite, though. I have gotten a few royal flushes over the years and my DH won a progressive on the flaming red sevens. I usually do better in Vegas but it doesn't mean you can't win on a ship ....but your odds are greatly reduced.

Just off 11 day Equinox trip, we enjoy slots, $5 Table games, then they bump to $10 on busy nights. Slots seemed to pay well one night, then take it back the next. All for fun, so it doesn't matter to us. It was interesting to see how few people played Craps.

Last year I cashed out a ticket for $450.00 Had started with $100.00. Also walked away with $75.00 on the craps table. This year I think I won around $275.00. Both were $.25 machines.

My husband and I like to play the slots. On one cruise I won a $400 jackpot and $1800.00 on another machine. Very good cruise. Last year we were on 34 nights b2b2b, so we budgeted our funds. My husband was lucky to start the cruise, but gave it all back. We play to have fun and we have been lucky on some cruises, and not so lucky on others.

On our last cruise on Constellation, we did not do to well. We play table games, not so much slots. At end of cruise, they had a drawing (we accumulated several tickets playing the tables over the cruise). I won third place in the drawing, which was $200 in house chips (cant cash them in, but can cash winnings in) and wife won first place ($600). She turned that into $700 cash on tables, I turned mine back in! That was about enough to pay off our account on the ship, so a nice win!

Craps has the best odds of any game in any casino. I don't understand the game, but I'm told that a bet placed 'behind the Pass line' is as close to a player advantage as you can get.

Bets on the "Pass Line" have a house advantage of less than 1.5%. On the initial "Come-Out" roll you immediately win if the roll is a 7 or 11 and immediately lose if the roll is a 2, 3 or 12. If the initial roll is a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 (called the "Point") then there is no initial win or loss and you can make an additional behind the Pass Line bet (called an Odds Bet) that on subsequent rolls the Point will occur before a 7 occurs. These Odds Bets have a ZERO HOUSE ADVANTAGE. The rules vary for different casinos, but typically your "Odds Bets" are allowed to be up to three times your initial "Pass Line" bet. The combination of Pass Line bets and 3X Odds Bets yields an average house advantage of slightly less than 0.5%! Absolutely the lowest of any game in the casino.

In comparison, roulette (with both 0 and 00) has a house advantage of 5.26% and slots generally have at least a 20% house advantage, although in some on-land casinos (don't know about cruise casinos) the dollar slots often have only about a 5% house advantage.

We were on Summit a few weeks ago. There was one gentleman playing almost every day and night. He seemed to be the only one playing. Don't know how he did.

We both always win the first few nights and then promptly lose it the last few days.

Last cruise on the Summit my mom was sitting next to a fellow who won the jackpot for over $25,000 I think (or around that amount). They took some pictures of him holding a big check and then paid him in CASH!

Hope he did well playing craps; but like any casino game, if you play long enough you will lose.

The problem with playing 3x odds at the craps table is that even if you are only playing a minimum bet of $10 on the Pass Line, 2/3 of the time you will increase your total bet to $40 - so on average your "minimum" bet in total will be $30. If your budget for a session is $300 (not that much for some, but a lot for many,) it only takes 10 losing bets in a row to wipe out your budget.

It's my theory that the slot machines are set loose the first few nights of the cruises so that word get's around that they are paying off, then they reset them to make money for the casino.

Number 1 myth of slot machines. The current technology does not permit that unless they change the Random Number Generator which is the chip that decides a winner or not. RNGs are set at the factory and not changed during the lifetime of the machine unless the machine malfunctions. The chip is very expensive. All this info is readily available on the Internet.

In my 22 years on this board I have seen many different times when people said they changed the machines. Before dinner, after dinner, beginning of cruise, end of cruise middle of cruise. Many different combo's but they are all myths.

my parents would agree with you. I like to believe that things are done fair and square (and legal).

I do not play craps but there was a thread on the RC board where they said RC changed the odds on some bet from what you would get in Vegas to something more favorable to the house. As for blackjack I believe if you follow the basic strategy you can get the house advantage under 1% and if you can count cards, which is not illegal, you can actually flip the advantage.

The other game where you can get close to even is video poker, but you have to know what payouts to look for and then follow a strategy. I thought if you could find a 9/6 machine and then follow the best strategy you could cut the house advantage to half of one percent. But I haven't looked it up in a while . . .
