We used Uber this last November and both times the driver arrived within five minutes of our confirmation.

Uber is very accessible and reliable - Sydney is a global city not some backwater (although some would say White Bay terminal fits that description)

Keith, We were just in Sydney before embarking on a Seabourn cruise and used Uber a number of times. Response time was excellent, drivers were friendly and our hotel advised us that fares would be better than taxi pricing. The only time we used a taxi was at the airport, where there were special lines for larger cabs. Have a great trip!

Thank you all for your help with this question.

We have been to Sydney on four prior visits but only when cruising so the sites we visited were pretty much all on foot. We are avid walker so we walk lots each day. We did have a couple of cruise line events where we were transported by private bus (coach). We have also taken the ferry.

This time around we will be there for several days visiting some of our family members who live there now. We are staying downtown and they are outside the city downtown area so not walkable. We may actually take the bus from time to time but suspect the majority of the time we will make use of Uber.
