Newcastle embarkation

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the info mtt very useful. What time were you due to sail? We should be 1600 hours, not that it matters really. What time did you have to vacate your cabin and what time did you disembark? Was the MDR open the final morning ?

we had to vacate the cabin at 07:00, was due to depart (private taxi) at 08:40 but was gone 09:00 before we was called to debark, sorry didn't see about the mdr

we stayed at the Premier inn at port of tyne the night before, took a walk down to see the ship in the morning and to get an idea of where to go. When it came to checking in we were told to take our cases to the red brick building to the left of the passenger terminal to drop them off and get our envelope with cabin cards, luggage labels etc with cabin numbers on. We went back to the terminal and were given a number to check in, numbers were called forward in batches of 30 or so. We used this time to fill in the slip that came in the envelope asking how were were disembarking (this helps them to sort coloured labels for sorting luggage at the end of the cruise!!) and were called forward around 15 mins later. Check in complete and form handed in we went through a security area and were taken to a shuttle bus to board the ship. we were on board just after 12.30 and cases were at the cabin around 3pm. (we went for a walk around the ship and went back to the cabin) very straight forward and simple. disembarking was straight forward as well. Envelope arrived in cabin 2 days before we left with a list of disembarkation times depending on forward travel. We were getting the shuttle to the train station so we had orange labels. first shuttle was at 7.45am and was first disembarkation. They called it over the tannoy and we left the ship, went to the red brick building collected our cases and shuttle buses were located on the other side. simple and straight forward, not sure how later departures were.

I have not sailed out of Newcastle with Marella, but have with Fred Olsen.

Fred was quick and simple. You are sent your luggage labels a few weeks before you depart.

we drove to Newcastle and as had parking booked went straight to the car park. porters took our cases out of the boot and took them away

Short walk about 20 meters for us to the terminal and within 30 minutes we were checked in, another 30 minutes and we were called to be bussed to the ship.

On Embarkation we left the ship when called, bus to car park where we picked up our cases and porters helped to load them in the boot.

All well organised and painless.

This seems better than Marella.

10-15 mins? No delay when I got off and no cost.

If you're just getting the shuttle bus from the port to the station you don't need to book, you can get on any (7:45, 8:30, 9:15). I got off the boat, picked up my case and was on the 7:45 bus to the station, was there in plenty of time for a 9:15 train.

  • 2 weeks later...

The free bus to Central station runs at 7.15, 8.45 and 9.15 am. You get an orange luggage tag to put on your case when leaving it outside the cabin. that tag allows you to use any of the 3 station departures. I used the 9.15 bus yesterday and it took 35 minutes to get to Central station. When the departure you want is called by Fiona the social hostess you walk to the red brick building, collect your case and take it to the coach which is just outside in the carpark. The coach yesterday was about three quarters full.
