They have evacuated her by helicopter and her son is with her thank goodness.

They are going to a hospital in Girona.

We have spoken to the British Consulate who are being helpful.

Good news regarding her son. DD and DGD should disembark at Naples. NCL should assist with disembarkation. DD and DGD should fly home. Get the kid home. Thereafter, DD can figure out whether to join up with the son.

Good luck to the in-law.

They put a security guard on him and then he stared taking photos of his mums shoes! Staff in medical centre were good once they got there. They breathylised her would you believe!,,, she's a teetotaller.

They were not allowed off the ship. The ship is sailing towards Naples

When my SIL got to his mum there were no medical staff with her. Just 6 people dong nothing. It took 15 minutes after that for medics to arrive. Nobody has helped my daughter or spoken to her or given her any support whatsoever. This has catastrophic effects on all of them on the future.

She is in her cabin on her own.

Take a deep breath. If it is a serious situation she will be in good hands. People are not going to ignore her. The medical staff on the ships are very professional and they know what they are doing.

Hope everything works out well for all involved.

BAC via expiration is more expedient than blood analysis. ETOH must be know before certain meds can be administered.

Well, this is quite a relief!

I had understood from your earlier post that he was NOT allowed to accompany her, and she had to be medevac'd alone.

(We thought they always, or almost always, allow one person to go along with the patient, so this is good news.)

His being with her will facilitate things considerably, as he can give any important medical information/background about her.

Still... what a horrible way to leave a port!

We needed on board medical care once about 3 or 4 years ago, and we were extremely impressed with how it was all handled.

The local hospital on land later stated that NCL medical staff had done everything right, and they only observed him for several hours.

Later, back home, our local physicians and specialists said that NCL medical staff had done exactly what they would have done at the major academic medical center we use. That was also good to know.

Hope she recovers without further problems.

Have your daughter contact the Hotel Director and let him know what kind of assistance she needs; there is nothing wrong with asking for help. They might think that she is in contact with the son.

Ship rocking and rolling. . .going to be a rough night.

Nobody has helped my daughter. She's on her own, she had to walk round with grandson asleep in buggy (thank goodness) and nobody has contacted her to see if she's alright.

I'm shocked.. We've sailed on 61 cruises and this is a real eye opener.

We just pray her MIL recovers after this awful accident. At her age it may be a long road to recovery.

All I want to do is get there to help them.

If she needs help or information, why isn't she asking for it?

Hopefully you were able to book a flight to get there asap.

From what you wrote, it sounds like your SIL is on board too to help your daughter and grandson, so that is a help and should ease your mind that your daughter is not completely alone. NCL won’t be able to guess their needs if they don’t ask.

That's how it seemed at first.

Apparently SIL *was* able to join his mother on the medevac helo off the ship. So that's great for MIL obviously, but Daughter is on the ship alone with grandchild, stuck there until they reach Naples.

That's probably best all the way around, but it does leave Daughter there alone.

But she definitely should *ask* for whatever help she needs, including possibly help with air tix waiting as soon as possible after they arrive in Naples.

Keeping fingers crossed that MIL does well...

Best of my thoughts and wishes to the entire family that has been going through this ordeal! I have been thoroughly impressed with how quickly responsive this forum’s community has been in providing reassurances, suggestions and offers of help to those in need. It makes me real happy to see humanity at it’s best.

I bet your daughter is a lot stronger than you think. But she needs

to reach out to guest services and let them know what she needs. I wouldn’t wait , hoping some of the staff are mind readers.

She will be be in Barcelona or Naples on Tuesday. You could fly there and meet her if you think she needs support.

Firstly I wish your family member a full and speedy recovery from this dreadful accident.

NCL are usually very good and try and find out who the Hotel Director is and the Captain. One the Captains who sails Epic, is a gent called Frank is quite amazing and I am sure if you ask to speak to him if he is there he will assist. The HD also should assist but you need to insist on seeing him. As an alternative whilst you may not be entitled to use the concierge service I think there is a gentleman called Bowen on the ship at present another great guy and I am sure he will help you.

I am afraid you may find customer service poor but if there is a guy called Mr Newball on the ship ask for him. He is a superb ambassador for NCL a a guest services supervisor

The Spanish hospitals are generally fantastic but UK Orthopaedics are fantastic and you need to try and get your mother (in law?) back to UK if it safe to transport her.

I feel so much for you because we took our mum on a cruise at the same age and wish you all the best.

All the best to you and the family.

thank you for all your kind words. It helps

Yes SIL at hospital. Daughter and child on ship. Little one pretty upset and disorientated.

She needs Internet to keep in touch with us but NCL won't give her free internet. There is so much to sort out.

We hope NCL will let us on ship to sail to Rome as we can use all her flights and transport easily from there. Easy jet being very helpful. Cabin is empty so shouldn't be a problem but I don't know how complicated it will be. Keep your fingers crossed we can do that. She needs us with her to help pack etc

I would be on the phone with NCL corporate on that because I would not think you would be able to replace your SIL or his MIL on a cruise already in progress. There are security issues with that and obviously you are not on the manifest. You would not have a keycard to even get past the customs officers at the port. Before you make air reservations you really need to speak to someone VERY high on the food chain at NCL Miami. I personally have never heard of anyone being able to join a cruise midway through under any circumstance

It would be horrible if you flew to a port to be left standing at the customs desk as the ship leaves for its next port.

I’ve never heard of a non-passenger being permitted to board mid-cruise. I doubt very much that you would be allowed to do this due to customs/immigration issues. I would not show up at port without getting something in writing from NCL that this will be allowed.

While the offer of free internet would be nice; internet costs to pay as she goes are not excessive. My last NCL Cruise was 10 days and was able to log in daily for email/post to Facebook/write a live cruisecritic review for around $25.

As others have said, while someone reaching out to her would be nice; if she needs help, she needs to go to guest services and ask for a supervisor and tell them what she needs.

Suing is the american way and I think it’s possible that they aren’t extending anything to your daughter out of fear of appearing to accept liability for the fall.

My biggest concern for her would be to find out if 1. The injured person was charged for the medical center visit. 2. If so, if that account had been settled. 3. If it’s not settled, do they expect someone from her party to settle it. Those medical center trips can costs thousands and those bills have to be paid prior to disembarking the ship. I would hate for her to have a flight to check and get detained while disembarking to settle how that account will be paid.

Thank you so much for that very useful information.

I'm afraid I'm not thinking straight all the time. There is so much to do.

Of course I now realise they wouldn't let us board. That was just an emotional answer. I just want to be with them.

We are flying to Rome to meet the ship and return with our daughter and little one.

It's the best we can do in the circumstances.

Thank you all for your kind wishes and messages of concern.

Thank you so much for that. I'm afraid I wasn't thinking straight. I should have known it wasn't a possibility. Guess no sleep last night has made it difficult to think logically.

I am totally shocked over this! We were on Carnival a few years back, and dd then 17 had an appendicitis attack, and she and I were off-loaded to a Belize hospital for 3 days. DH was left on the ship with our special needs daughter, and they let him make unlimited ship to shore phone calls from our cabin to me for the next 4 days, until we met up back in Miami. I totally feel for your family, and hope everything works out.

We just cannot understand it. Is there no compassion?

I've spoken to NCL here. Most unhelpful. Say they will email ship to allow her to make a call to me but that was ages ago and no response.

You've already had some great advice here from people much more knowledgable than me about how NCL deals with these situations and what your daughter needs to be doing and who she needs to speak to on board... but if you can't get to speak to her, that advice isn't any use I guess.

So, as a grandmother who could easily be in your shoes at some point, right now I would phone NCL UK back and ask to speak with a supervisor.

I'd also pay for internet access for my daughter... as much as I do think it's very disappointing they're not helping her with that, it's not very expensive in the grand scheme of things and would allow you guys to keep communication lines open over the next few days.

Trying to think of practical things she could do on board so that she's not so alone... I'd encourage her to get out on deck with the wee one and try to find a friendly face to chat to.

I hope you get to speak with her soon, and things work out ok for you all.
