I just got back from my amazing cruise on the Dream! This was my 10th cruise, but was a cruise of many firsts for me. It was my first 7 day cruise, first never feeling sea sick on a cruise, first time on the Dream, first time at a tender port, first time in Belize and Roatan...and last, but not least, it was my first time cruising through, and eventually outrunning, a tropical storm! This cruise definitely did not disappoint and I hope you all will follow along as I relive this awesome cruise!20180523_132418.jpg.be689f077cbe115cea69565234b3306a.jpg

About us...this cruise our 10th annual mother/daughter cruise. This became our thing after I graduated college in 2009 and we already have our 2019 cruise booked! My mom has a fee more cruises under her belt than I do and she will finally be platinum on the next cruise! Anyway, we are both teachers in southeast Missouri and we cruise out of New Orleans and Mobile because it is an easy drive for us. For this cruise, we left my mom and dad's around 6 am the day before the cruise and made a stop at the Vicksburg Military Park. We then made our way to NOLA where we made it to our hotel. We stayed at the Suburban Extended Stay in Avondale. This hotel is nothing special, but it was fine for one night. After doing some last minute packing/rearranging we went to bed pretty early because the next day was cruise day!IMG_20180520_144411_831.thumb.jpg.44211df869979d9098269d4d4ff67328.jpg

Embarkation Day!

On embarkation day we made our way to the Fulton Park Garage, like we always do, and paid $91 to park there for tar duration of the cruise. This saved us about $50 compared to parking at the cruise terminal. We found a spot to park, hopped in a shuttle and were at the terminal in under 15 minutes. Super easy!

The embarkation process has changed since the last time we cruised out if NOLA and we loved it! At first it seemed like the lines would be never ending, but that was not the case. The lines moved quickly and it took us less than an hour from getting off the shuttle to eating lunch on the Lido Deck! The only snag that we encountered was after we had checked in and were making our way to the gangway. Mom realized that she didn't have her passport, so she went back to the check in where the very sweet lady who checked us in was waiting on her to come back. She had realized that she hadn't handed mom's passport back to her and didn't let her leave her sight until mom got back. Even with that little snag, the process was so easy!

We made our way to the back of the ship and at lunch at the Tandoori because there were absolutely no lines! It was a little spicy for my liking, but still yummy! At 1:30 we headed to our room (we had an interior), dropped off my luggage and headed off to explore! We ended up hanging out at the Ocean Plaza until sail away. We love cruising down the Mississippi River and spent the majority of that first night camped out in deck chairs just taking in the sights! We also met Ida, our room steward, and requested morning only service and extra towels. He was friendly enough and we always got what we requested. That night we watched the Dive In Movie...pretty sure it was Pitch Perfect 3 and waited to pass the Triumph coming up the river before we finally headed to bed.IMG_20180520_193333_230.thumb.jpg.6cd82c53250097a87c44cf9e67b40190.jpg

1st Sea Day

I probably should have mentioned this earlier, but mom and I are really laid back cruisers. We don't participate in a lot of the activities, we don't shop on the ship, and we don't eat in the MDR. Nothing wrong with those things, just not our thing.

We woke up about 7:30 and headed to breakfast which was breakfast burritos at the Blue Iguana! I love those! After eating, we made our way to deck 11 where we easily found chairs and camped out for a couple of hours. I know that the chair hogs are out in full force on the Lido deck, but that's not always the case in other parts of the ship. Plenty of chairs in the sun! After we had our fill of sun, we showered and headed to the Ocean Plaza where we listened to the trivia games and read for a couple of hours. I also tried the Pig and Anchor BBQ today and I was not impressed. However, I also don't like Guys Burgers, so I didn't have high hopes for the BBQ. That evening we did go to the show, which was Motor City. Lots of motown...we loved it! I'm sure that dinner that night was the Lido buffet or the deli. We were in bed kind of early because we would be in Cozumel the next day!
