Portable Fridge.

Hi, have discovered our balcony cabin does not have a fridge.

Deluxe balconies do, so assume it would be desirable to have one.

I have a small portable electric cooler box I would like to take.

Can you experienced cruisers see any problem this.

The only problems I can see are being stopped from taking it on board.

The cabin sockets turning off when vacating the cabin,

which I understand can be defeated by a spare or dummy card left in.

Would welcome any experience of this and your views on it.

TIA, Mike.

I really doubt you’d be allowed take it on.

Just ask for ice bucket to be filled twice a day.

Which line?

If it looks like a cooler, you will probably be allowed it. If not, they will hold it until your departure. You can ask you cabin attendant to bring ice for a small, regular cooler, if you need it.

Given that most of these are designed to run off the power point (old time cigarette lighter) on a car, they don't draw much power, certainly less than a hair dryer. I don't see any safety reason to disallow, but the lines can prohibit what they want.

If you need a refrig for medical reasons, you can probably get one from the cruise line. I have a friend and he needs to keep his insulin cold. If the room does not have one, he contacts the special needs dept and they supply one. If you just want to use it to keep your soda cold, they probably will not let you. As others have suggested, as the steward to keep you supplied w ice.

I think after all the advice, I have come up with a 'cunning plan', to take some leak proof zip up food bags, a cooler bag and fill the food bags with ice from an ice bucket.

Being a beer drinker, hadn't thought of that, hope the ice is plentiful.

Thanks to all, this first cruise is a bit daunting for me, at least it,s all inclusive!

We always take a collapsible cooler and put it in our luggage. Then we just ask our cabin steward to keep it filled with ice. He replenishes the ice a couple times a day and our drinks are always ice cold. We love having ice cold drinks in the room. This would be much easier than a portable fridge. My biggest worry with a fridge would be finding an outlet. Those cruise cabins have very few and I’d hate to have to decide between plugging in my fridge or my cell phone.

Propping the cabinet door open a little (wash cloth, folded daily program, etc) helps with circulation and lets the fridge work.

We also take a collapsible cooler for sodas. The steward usually fills it every other day and it keeps the sodas nicely chilled. I would recommend something like that rather than an electronic cover.
