are the contents of the mini-bar step 'fixed' as to the only types available?

specifically looking to trade cognac, vodka & gin for rum or bourbon?

is that possible?...

I know about the all water setup, coffee package, bottle of wine...

I don't think so. I tried once a few years ago to trade the 8 little bottles that come with the mini-bar setup for Jack Daniels. I was told they do not carry Jack Daniels in little bottles. I took that to mean that the only little bottles carried aboard ship are the 4 brands that are standard with the mini-bar.

I've never asked but I believe those are the only choices allowable.

I think OP's question relates to not having any use for cognac, vodka, or gin, and preferring rum and/or bourbon.

The answer is Yes, you can trade out the useless liquor for your preferred spirit. But i think you are out of luck wishing for rum or bourbon. Here is the most recent listing i could find of what the mini bar actually includes:

two (2) miniature bottles each of Cognac, Gin, Vodka and Scotch Whisky, two (2) 12 ounce cans of beer, two (2) 12 ounce cans/bottles of tonic water, two (2) 12 ounce cans of Coca Cola, two (2) 12 ounce cans of Sprite, two (2) 0.5 liter bottles of water, two (2) 11 ounce bottles of Perrier.

Be advised that the Scotch is Dewar's -- which hardly counts.

You can only trade for what they have in the small bottles, which is the Cognac, gin, Vodka and Scotch. They unfortunately don’t offer any rum. Disappointing to my friend as that is what he drinks!

If you want real disappointment try being a Scotch drinker. The only scotch you can get in your cabin is total poop that's only drinkable if you mix it with something. What's the point of scotch that has to be mixed? One has to wonder who is in charge of deciding what liquor is available from room service or in the mini bar setup. The choices aren't at all good.
