Star embarkation: can I drop off luggage at Venice cruise port and tour the city?

We'll be sailing out of Venice in NCL Star next month, and wonder if we could take advantage of the embarkation day to enjoy the city by dropping off our luggage to the porters at the cruise terminal, then leave for the city instead of getting on the ship, then return last minute to embark.

Another option we thought about was to embark first (and drop off luggage), then leave the ship for the city, and return to the ship before sailing.

Is this allowed? Has anyone done this? Thanks in advance!

Michael

There is luggage storage at Piazzale Roma, it would be far quicker to drop luggage off there and then carry on into Venice, it would save you a good hour or more. You would have to be back at the port by no later than 2.30.
