Question regarding Carnival Insurance

Good Morning, I need a little help if you don't mind. I have a cruise booked for next month. It was supposed to be myself and 2 girlfriends. I did purchase insurance through Carnival when I booked the cruise since it is hurricane season. One of my friends messaged me today that she is unable to go because her 13 year old son is having medical issues and she does not dare leave him for 5 days. The cruise was booked on a casino offer so the deposit is non refundable and I am not sure about what the cancellation penalties are. Myself and the other friend still want to go. I called the insurance company to ask if she can make a claim for just herself without us having to cancel. They did say yes and if the doctor will sign the form she may get a refund. My question is do I call Carnival and tell them ahead of time or still let her be a no show. I don't want them to change my room or cancel the whole booking and rebook us at a different rate. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Whose eligibility for the casino rate did you use? If it was hers, there may be a problem because the person booked under the casino rate has to be there.

 

If it was your rate, just have her as a no show..she can deal with her part through insurance (insurance was bought for everyone or just you?) and all taxes, prepaid grats will be refunded

The rate was mine so no issue there and yes I bought the insurance for all 3 of us. I could not use an outside insurance company as we live in 2 different states and no one would offer it to us. Thank you for the responses I am glad at least those things will be refunded right off.

With Carnival insurance, she can cancel and everyone else will be fine.

She will have to have medical evidence to show why she "had" to cancel for her claim to be approved.

NOTE: no matter how much she paid (like you all got the total price and then split it 3 ways) she is only going to be reimbursed at the 3rd person rate.

 

Also, Carnival insurance includes "Cancel For Any Reason" coverage. Even if her claim is denied due to not enough evidence that the doctors agree that she must cancel, she can file for the CFAR reason. She must do this at least 48 hours prior to schedule trip departure.

However, she is only going to receive a 75% credit (at the 3rd person rate) to be used on a future cruise. (There is a time limit on booking the future cruise)

 

Having said all this

I'm not sure "13yo son is having medical issues" and mom doesn't dare leave him is going to be good enough for a valid claim.

13yo son is in the hospital and undergoing medical treatment is more likely to be accepted.

 

If mom is just concerned and doesn't want to leave him, then look at the Cancel For Any Reason.

I'm pretty sure that in order to file an insurance claim that your friend will have to cancel not just be a "no show". You should verify that prior to deciding what to do. Normally people mention to be a " no show" because the person didn't purchase insurance.

 

Good advice. I have seen policies that had it spelled out that in order to make a claim, a cancellation has to be made. I have also seen policies that do not say this. Best to check with your insurance carrier.
