Welcome to CC Bas. You picked a great ship. We loved our cruise on the Glory.

How long will you be staying in the US? Are you planning to do any extra traveling while here?.

You really shouldn't have any trouble with any sort of medication, especially if it is prescription.

Hey, if not, try a few of the drinks of the day and that'll help you sleep fine. LOL

Enjoy your first cruise and hope it will be the first of many.

Cheers

Len

Just find a Wal-Greens or CVS (drug store chains) in Miami. We have several over the counter (non-prescription) sleeping pills in the US. Unisom comes to mind. They won't be as strong your prescribed ones, but worth trying. A lot of people also use Benadryl (over the counter allergy pill) to help them sleep.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks for al the awnsers.

I am taking my own pills with me in original package, with docters perscription and a form from the pharmacy in English, just enough for the days.

2 more days and we'll be flying away from Amsterdam. Can't describe how much we are looking forward to this.

Only concern is, we have late time dining. Somehow i think this is going to be a sleeping dinner because of jetlag (it is 2.15 am in Holland then)..and i think roomservice with coffee around 6 am will be an idea for the first few days due to time difference. Oh well, we will see how it goes and enjoy every minute of the trip.

Yeah there are plenty of options in Roatan, but my mom en her bf Wanted to go to something they went before, so thats why its this.

Just saw there are (some) fttf tickets available, we are talking about taking it.

Stupid question, what type of powerplugs are used on the ship? Do i need the American conversion type?

Yes its the first time for me and my gf going west from Europe.

Yes! Grab FTTF! Priority check in, priority boarding, cabin ready upon boarding, priority tender, priority line at guest services, and priority debarkation. Well worth the cost in my opinion. Remember that the cost is per cabin, NOT per person.

I have one more, slighty embarrasing question.. i have a "sleaping disorder", and won't be able to sleep without some sleeping pills. I have never given it any thought, but without a docters declaration and paperwork from the embassy i'm not allowed to taked them with me. There is no way i have this ready before the cruise. i don't see the humor in getting some extra free time from work due to drugs transport, eventhough its only 10 tablets. Are these things available in the US in some big shop of pharmacy or even on the ship (legal ofcourse!)

Sorry for the dumb question.

Prescription sleep medication can only be obtained with a script at a pharmacy. There are OTC sleep meds, but if you are used to a controlled sleep med, these may be useless to you. I just bring Melatonin with me when I travel.

Typically sleeping pills will not be restricted from carrying with, unless they are considered an illegal narcotic (marijuana, cocaine, etc). If they are prescribed pills, you will have no problem with them cross ing most any border.

Why do you think that you will need embassy permission to take your medication?

Definitely, if you have meds in the original prescription bottle, nobody will take those from you.

florida recently (july 1) changed its controlled substances (prescriptions) rules. (I work at a local dr office and at the local college of medicine so this is something i deal with with my patients almost daily or more) depending on the prescription, they may have to "order it". which could take a couple of days. most pharmacists will deny a foreign prescritption (we have encountered this with a few of our patients who are green-card and used to be able to see their doctor back home and get their medicine in the US). if you bring the medicine into the US in the original bottle-they shouldn't care. boarding they won't care. but getting anything strong would require a visit to a US doctor who is willing to prescribe the medicine (which many won't for foreigners or even out of state) and the fill it locally. your doctor cannot call the local pharmacy. they will not take a prescription that is schedule II (maybe schedule III-but doesn't seem likely without more info) via the phone.

most of the versions of tylenol PM or advil PM is just a combination of tylenol and benedryl. so you could just buy the benedryl. some people will find success with melatonin. but if you are at the point that you need that level of sleep medicine, it is unlikely that either of those options would work fo ryou.

therefore, bring the medicine with you from home.

The poster isn’t allowed to bring his prescribed sleeping medicine to the US due to custom laws in his country due to the class of drug that it is. He needs all the required paperwork he mentioned in order to get through customs with it, not US customs or Carnival. But it looks like he found a loophole and is going to be able to bring the exact quantity he will need for his trip. Hope you have a great time! I’m cruising in December and it can’t get here quick enough.

I realize this. I wasn't addressing the: "I have never given it any thought, but without a docters declaration and paperwork from the embassy i'm not allowed to taked them with me." part

I saw that he got the right amount to take with him. But in case something fell through or that didn't work out, I wanted him to be fully informed

You will enjoy it! Mr. Sanchos was so great it's the whole reason we plan to go to Cozumel again!

We flew from NC to Vancouver for our Alaska cruise. We had flight issues and litereally stayed up all night. On the first night of the cruise we went back to the cabin to get a sweater for the sail away party and fell asleep - until the next day. but it was some good sleep.

Be careful wiht the benadryl. I also had Cheers and took dramamine which is similar to bendadryl. I took dramamine and went straight to the Serenity Deck and had a few drinks. It knocked me on my butt very quickly!!! Hubby had to help me back to the cabin. Whew........

Hope your trip is sensational! So happy you are able to do it!

You didn't mention which hotel you were staying at. Have you checked to see if they offer a free shuttle from the airport. Lots of hotels do.

By the way, your English is a whole lot better than some Americans that post on here. ;);)

Thanks, nice to read haha.

We will be staying at the Residence Inn at South Beach. Seemed o.k., price was good, pretty central and clouse enough to port and airport.

I was addressing the people telling him that the US customs or the ship wouldn’t take his medication away from him. I was making it clear that it was his local customs, not US customs. Also, people saying for him to take Benadryl..that isn’t going to help him if he has a sleeping disorder.

Hi fellow cruisers,

My name is Bas, we live in the Netherlands near the German boarder.

16 months ago we booked our first cruise. In 40 days, we will be embarking the Carnival Glory. I've read tons of information on this forum about the ship, cruising itself, the ports and so on. I want to say thanks for all the info!

We will be flying out of Amsterdam on sept. 21, to Miami. We have a hotel for a night before and a night after the cruise in South Beach. Sept. 22 we will be sailing out of Miami to Grand Cayman, Roatan, Belize and Cozumel. We booked excursions through Carnival for all stops execpt Cozumel, we will do a Mr. Sanchoz day there. Although we are not the biggest drinkers as far as alcohol goes, we do like our speciality coffee, occasional beer and all, we purchased Cheers to be on the safe side and not think about a big bill afterwards. We have cabins 6269 and 6267 on the ship. Hope they are any good. We are really looking forward to it.

Gr. Bas.

Soooo, we are back home.. and it's cold here haha.

I'll make a little summary of vacation.

We loved it!

We had some problems on our way to the U.S.A. (TA made a type error with the ESTA, which means it is not matched to the pasport,.and they won't let you board the plane) and having a taxi who crashed his car into an other taxi while leaving the terminal in Miami! Stood there for over an hour. At this point we were already 20 hours on our way so we were getting a little bad tempered.

South beach is nice to stay for a day or 2, but we think it is a little too expensive for our liking there.

Embarkation; we had a boarding ticket from 1-1.30 pm. We arrived 10 minutes early, but could walk straight through. We had to make a picture witch meant we could walk right past the lines in the terminal, and were on board in less then 15 minutes.

After that, and the fun day at sea, we were just looking around en wondering about all the stuff that goes on. In 3 of the 4 ports, we did excursions by Carnival. We enjoyed esspecially the excursion in Grand Cayman. In Cozumel we went to Mr Sancho's.

About the Glory, it is not the biggest or newest ship, and you can see that she needs some maintaining (floor in the casino, lots and lots of rust by the balcony for example) but we loved her. Although we got lost a few times, especially getting to Platinum restaurant deck 3 aft.

We are not big fans of buffet, we ate at the MDR every evening. Nothing to complain really. Steak was to far sometimes, but got a good new one in stead. Service was great the MDR. The cabin steward,.haven' t seen him till monday evening en never seen him again. Room was clean though.

We had cheers, but did we break even? Don't think so, my gf at least not. But would purchase it again, just to be on the safe side and not thinking about every drink.

Deembarkation wasn't smooth. While we had a hotel for the night, we had one of the later numbers..it was 11.30 i believe before we got off and wend to costums.
