Sydney answer by year end

Perhaps we will see what happened when the Cabinet papers are released in 30 years.

If we listen to the 'experts'. By then the world's rising sea levels will mean that only a 10' tinny will fit under the bridge. And Garden Island will be a submarine base!

On the bright side itineraries will change as half the South Pacific islands will be under water and many of the current tender ports will have deep water access. :p

Dry dock at HMAS Harman!

Black Mountain Tower a lighthouse!

Old Parliament House cruise terminal OPH! Might need to dredge Lake Burley Griffen for deep water access.

Oh hang on will ACTGov be any better than their QBN counterparts? [emoji19]

My Computer has been down ,what was the verdict, saw nothing on the News? Last titbit I heard was Wisemans Ferry!!

They’ve just announced they’re doing up a few jetties in Lake Macquarie.

Rip out the Swansea bridges and Bob’s your Aunty.

Finally people who have Sydney as a port stop want to be in Sydney. Even White Bay is marginal. They don't want to be a couple of hours from the place that they want to sightsee in.

Recent mention of fast train in the media? Newcastle-Squidley 45 minutes? There must been an election in the wind.

Yeah, been talking about that as long as I can remember, would have solved Port and airport if they’d built it 30 or so years ago.

The problem is that politicians on both sides, in both Federal & State governments, don't see votes in a cruise terminal & it is just too easy to turn the location (any location) into a negative. Let's face it, there is almost no project of any kind, no matter how worthy, that can't be turned into a negative, based on the money could be better spent elsewhere or nimbyism.

Whilst the proportion of the population cruising increases year on year, not too many are worried about cruise terminals, and it sure ain't going to influence their votes. Only the cruiselines, tourism groups and us here on CC are interested.

I think your right and I’m also not sure on the economies, I wonder what the lines will kick in towards a new terminal, but then the surrender terminal must be worth a motza if it was flogged off to recoup some of the cost.

We didn't have that problem in Brisbane. So it can be done.

The real problem in Sydney is that NSW state governments have turned a great deal of harbourside property from commercial docks and such, into multi-million dollar real estate developments. To the great profit of their mates, and without any concern for future requirements.

As a result, the only land left that could be used as a cruise terminal belongs to the Federal government and the Navy doesn't want to give it up. You'd have to wonder why they should have to make up for the fecklessness of NSW governments.

So the cruise community is left with such substandard options as White Bay and Botany Bay.

Greed and development, the Sydney curse.

All that may be true, may be false, maybe partly true/false. There have been good developments and bad ones too. But the reality is that there are no votes in cruise terminals, and as such there is no appetite for pollies to make decisions on cruise terminals.

Glad utopia exists in Brisbane.
