Where Do You Buy Hong Kong HoHo Tickets

We are going to Hong Kong on a cruise and we want to tour on our own using the Red, Blue and Green HoHo lines.

Can anyone tell me where we can buy the tickets?

We assume you are talking about the "Big Bus" tours....and if so...you can pre purchase tickets online (they have their own web site) or simply pay as you get on your first bus.

We also did the HOHO in Hong Kong when porting there. Opted to just purchase them through the cruiseline as there was little to no difference in pricing...but we did get transportation with the cruiseline to where the HOHO started at the main station point (can't remember the name).

We got ours at the Star Ferry terminal.

Once paid, you receive eTicket confirmation, store it on your smartphone/tablet/iPhone/iPad or print it out, board it on the day of the hop on & off, show it upon boarding or at one of the stop to the driver or locations where they have a retail location, i.e. Star Ferry terminal's booth window in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Valid for both the Kowloon & Island route, the 2 day pass is a much better deal if you are staying overnight or visiting pre- and/or post-cruise; as, the Peak Tram and/or Observation Tower ticket is included - saving time to get inline to buy those tickets separately ... read the above links for detail or Google/Bing/Baido for it. Buses are free WiFi equipped - there's a free companion App (iOS & Android) for it.

IMHO, it's rather pricey for 2 and worst for 3, outright expensive for 4 adults ... do it when you are only in town for a day. Otherwise, walking shoes (and, dress warmly in layers for the "colder" winter months) and you can explore on your own - take the route stops as suggestions on where & what to see. The official HK Tourism Board's website has tons of ideas & recommendations ... this time of the year with all the holidays, some of the best places to sightsee & experience are in the evenings. But, if you have to do this - my fast track suggestion is to take a taxi to the Hung Hom station stop as the starting point, it's one of the shortest distance/time direct from Kai Tak Cruise Terminal (via Kowloon City - toll-free - tunnel & elevated roadway) and get on the bus.

HOHO buses are quite expensive for 2 or 3 people. Work out where you want to go and then download the MRT map. The train system is very easy to use and when you buy an Octopus card works out quite cheap.

Taxis are quite cheap and very plentiful. I used them quite a lot, the temperature wasn’t that bad in October, about 28 Celsius but the humidity was very high and I tired quickly, surprisingly to me HK is very hilly.

The big Buddha at Lantau is amazing.

The ship or cruise line does matter at all, and as you have stated the do not go near the Kai Tak cruise terminal.

You can get on a HOHO bus at any of their bus stops, have a look again at the Big Bus maps that you have it states where the buses start.

I will be in Hong Kong fir 5 days in May before our cruise. Am I to understand that the cost of 2 people on a HoHo bus is not cost effective when compared to using the MTR and taxis?

Princess offers a HOHO tour; how do you get on the bus if the bus doesn't come to the port? Do they have shuttle to the first stop?

We were just in Hong Kong and used Big Bus. Tickets were sold at the ferry terminal, we were on Kowloon across from Hong Kong. Hotel provided shuttle bus closer to the docks and then we took a taxi to the ferry. Big Bus takes credit cards, also. Tickets include ferry rides, bus routes, tram ride, boat ride. We didn't use the boat ride. We took both routes and it was a great way to see everything!!
