Question re: cashless casino onboard.

I apologize if this has been asked before, I did a search and couldn't find a answer.

I am sailing on the Ms. Oosterdam in January (1st time on HAL). I have not been on a cruise in 9 years. Last time I was able to use cash. I understand now that my onboard account will be used.

My question is: If I put my AMEX as my onboard account, when I use my key in the casino, will they deduct from it as a cash advance, or would it go through as just a normal charge? I am asking because cash advance rates on AMEX are really high!

Thanks in advance!

David.

Casino chips or slot play using your ship card is considered a purchase and not a cash advance on your credit card. It will show up in your final statement listed as "Casino", then amount for that session. I have never been charged a cash advance fee when using my ship card in the casino.
