Nieuw Statendam Changes

Has anyone noticed the deck plan changes for the NS? Culinary Arts is gone, replaced by America's Test Kitchen. Does that mean that it will no longer be a restaurant? Also, the Queen's Lounge is now identified as Lincoln Center and BB King has moved to another area. Maybe deck plans can't be relied upon at this stage but I found the changes interesting since Culinary Arts had difficulty getting off the ground and the spot on Koningsdam for Lincoln Center was so crowded and popular.

yes, and it was somewhat smoky at times, almost always had noise interference from Main Stage crowds and the Billboard Bar. So it was moved to give it the more acceptable venue it richly deserved. This will happen on Koningsdam as well.....

Any idea when this might happen on the Koningsdam?

I noticed those changes a few weeks ago. Sorry to see them. Why they didn't just create a double glass wall to prevent the sound bleed into the Lincoln Center venue is puzzling. The dance floor and sound reinforcement in the Queen's lounge is far better suited to the B.B. King blues show. The smoke issue, of course would be solved by not permitting smoking in the casino (other cruise lInes have smoke-free casinos). Or the stairway from the casino could be eliminated. We also had really enjoyed our creative meals at the Culinary Arts venue. Bummed about that.

According to the HAL webpage, Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam will serve dinners in the Culinary Arts venue. America's Test Kitchen is the collaboration for the cooking shows, demonstrations and workshops. I think it was working as ATK when I was on the Koningsdam and we enjoyed a wonderful dinner in the CAC.

Clearly this topic has taken the HAL board by storm! I love to talk about new ship changes.

And there's no mention of Billboard On Board and the space on the deck plan that would otherwise be filled by it is blank. Does that mean something new?

However, the Nieuw Statendam general information page does mention Billboard On Board, so I think the graphic artist merely neglected to add the label. I do notice, however, that the Explorer's Bar, which formerly was at the rear of the Lincoln Center Live space is now missing entirely. That will leave more space for the BB King audience. I'm guessing the logic behind this change was to keep the loud band in a confined space and keep the more quiet performers in the open spaces. This seems like a logical solution to the sound bleed that has been a complaint on Koningsdam.

The text descriptions of the ship seem to be more reliable than the deck plans at present. That said, there are hash marks on the Lido deck plan to indicate Lido cabanas. This is true on the plans for both Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam. I'm assured by ships services that there are, in fact, no Lido cabanas on either ship. So I wish they would correct the deck plans, please.

We asked the same question before we boarded K-dam and indeed there are no Lido cabanas. They are, however, set up that they could so easily add them.

Thanks for pointing those changes out for Nieuw S. As an FYI, CAC has been/is being replaced by ATK on all the prior ships. It is now known as the BB King's Club/ATK on the big ships and Wajang Theatre/ATK on the smaller ones

I hope there are no Lido Cabanas and I hope they do not ever appear. That was a bad decision on the Eurodam. It makes that already crowded, narrow passage from the forward elevators to the Lido Buffet even more narrow & crowded. I wish they would take out the Lido Cabanas on all the ships, partly because it blocks the lovely view, but mostly because there is just not enough space for them and to use it as a passageway for the passengers.

I totally agree.

I would appreciate more open space, shaded space, without blocking that entire area with cabanas.

But, I think many people might appreciate if there were some cabanas available, at one of the pools.

I am a newbie, but what I am seeing of their Retreat leaves me cold. Just a big, closed in, sterile, area of cubicles.

There will be no wider promenade deck. The NS is the 2nd of the Pinnacle class ships and there are 2 more to come.

Sandra

There are three confirmed Pinnacles (K-dam, Nieuw S coming out this Nov, and an as yet unnamed coming out in 2021). Can I ask you where you heard about a fourth, thanks!

Another question... I am noticing cabins C1127 - C1135 off the Atrium, that seem to be like Ocean View cabins, but are much larger... and NO windows shown??? Does anyone know anything about this?

Those cabins appear to be where the Hudson Rooms are on the Koningsdam - and they had windows. It would be unusual if it now did not. Maybe it is just a deck plan error.

A Dam captain told us back when the K dam was new. I don't really remember which Captain.

Were the ships specifically going to HAL? Cunard is getting what appears to be a Pinnacle class ship, or at least their version built on the Pinnacle "platform."

I like those moves, if they come about. I like ATC. Have experienced ATC on both the Nieuw Amsterdam and the Eurodam.
