Age and solo crusing

I am getting these AMAZING casino offers from Carnival right now and my husband is being kinda "wishy washy" on pulling the trigger on one of them I am tempted just to book one and go solo (these price CANNOT be beat)!!!! I am not afraid to go solo but I feel guilty because I would be leaving my husband home for a week with our 2 kiddos (12 & 16). Should I just do it? Or stay home and not feel the guilt?

Whattup, fellow Christine! *waves hi* If you have the vacation time, and can afford it on your budget, you should definitely book the cruise :) Also, totally jelly of your casino offers; obviously the cruise gods are telling me that I should gamble more? :')

All my travels by land or sea are solo. I love it. I have meet people from all over the world. Yes I pay double occupancy price, but I like certain cabins, so I pay. I find that there are plenty of people to talk to. Most of my cruises are 10 days and more. Often people ask it I am afraid to cruise by myself. I tell them know. As even cruising with someone else, you still have to be aware in different ports you visit. Many of the people will invite to dine with them, tag along with their group if we are on the same excursion. The craziest group was from Canada. They were a fun group to hang out with. Go solo, have fun.

Yes I would pay double occupancy was well! And I've some how always have meet other people even though I was with other people. I'm just tired of waiting, and every time I ask my friends there's just no response really lol.

I took my first solo cruise at 27. I also look very young, am female, and a minority so I felt like I had so much going against me. However, I was tired of living life on friends' time, budget, vacation allowance, and interests! My first solo was amazing, I told a few people (mostly women) I was alone and they expressed shock that I was able to do at 27 what they couldn't do until 50/60 and encouraged me to keep living life with courage and confidence and on my own terms! Second solo was not so good but it hasn't stopped me - third solo booked for Sept 2018! :)

For me the "scariest" part is embarkation, not dining. If you are on a cruise line that has traditional dining, you will be seated with other solos or a table of women in your age range. Embarkation is a group activity and it is very obvious that I'm in line alone. I usually put headphones in and bop along to my favorite jams until its my turn at the desk. Once on the ship, no one knows anything, ha! :)

Thanks for sharing! I am of a minority (african-american) as well, and that is something to that I feel could adding to my insecurity of traveling alone. When I cruised with Norwegian, there wasn't any embarkation parts that I remember. I've always said to myself if I dine, Im dinning buffet for breakfast lunch/dinner. :') lol Enjoy your next solo trip!

I'm 35 and single, and will be going on my first cruise (38-day Voyage of the Vikings) next year with my parents. However, I have travelled all over the USA, Haiti, Puerto Rico, and even Ghana by myself. I figured I might as well enjoy life and do as much as I can, even if it's by myself.

I had looked into solo cruising before, but never found any real good deals. I'm sure I'll be looking again after I finish this cruise.

Consider yourself a majority - utterly no need to refer to yourself as a "minority" (specially since its probably some old white mans terminology in the first place). There are dark skinned people all over the world enjoying their travels.

People come in all shapes, sizes and colours. It doesn't change their desire to see the world.

Empower yourself and just keep in your head that you are awesome - and people judge your awesomeness before they even notice your colour.

So very true!! I took my first for pleasure solo trip at age 27 for many of the same reasons others have stated. No boyfriend/significant other and/ or tired of waiting on others schedules and budgets. I had a blast and have not looked back since. I mix it up with land based and cruises and have always had a good time. Do other traveling people and sometimes cruise and resort employees say ignorant/ hurtful things on occasion? Sadly, yes. But the majority of people are genuinely supportive and in some cases envious because you are doing something they know they never could. Have a land based trip next year in March coming up and another cruise for my 50th later next year to look forward to.

It depends a bit on where and how you travel as well. Back packing alone through south east Asia common sight. Going solo to a typical honeymoon Ressort probably not so much. I felt the longer the cruises and the more interesting the itinerary the less stupid questions you get. Probably one of the worst is the typical cheap transatlantic repositioning westwards. Eastwards I often had backpackers using it as a cheaper than flying way to get to Europe (when the cruise prices were lower a couple of years). My first cruise was such a transatlantic when I was 26 I think. Same with the countries to visit. I am in Norway post cruise at the moment and no one in a restaurant ever wonders if you go here by yourself.

There is just one risk most completely underestimate and that is injuries and accidents. Had it a couple of days ago, just a 45 minute port stop, dark night, walking fast to cover some ground and using google maps to get some orientation. Out of nowhere there was a stone block in my way and I bruised both my legs pretty severely. No fun when being on your own.

I have been on One cruise by myself but I’m shy so I didn’t talk much to any one. I’m trying to choose a Cruise on the east coast. I’m going to put myself out there. Any suggestions on where to go for a 7 to 9 day cruise? How do I find out if they have solo rooms?

This will be my third and final cruise as a solo. I have been on the Epic twice and am going on the Ovation of the Seas, but next year I am heading back to Disney as the costs for a cruise is getting too high for me. I found one that interested me two weeks on the Independance of the Seas the canaaries adventure sailing 6th October, but the price for three people is £3274 for interior cabin, the price for 2 is £2438 and the price for one is £3144 why pay nearly as much for three people to go on holiday?

I feel the same way I also live on the east coast and I booked a 7 Bermuda cruise through NCL .. Im very shy also so this is going to def be a new experience for me . You can go to the ncl website and u can book a solo cabin on there its not hard . There's an option that allows to pick the number of passengers and when you choose 1 the option for a solo cabin becomes available to you.

Hi, I would recommend NCL they have great studio cabins and lounge where you can meet other solo cruisers. I was just on RC Anthem of the seas, although they hAve great studio cabins even one with a balcony they are scattered though the ship and don't seem to have many. On NCL they have to decks, where all studios are located together so you know everyone is a solo cruiser. And Bermuda is amazing!!

Hey everyone,

I just got back from a great cruise and perhaps Im already having withdrawal lol but I would love to book another. I'm 27 years old (yet I look maybe 18-22) and I just dont have a lot of people who would be down for cruising with me. I feel like if I was older I would look older for one, and have more confidence. I'm just curious what is the age range of those of you that travel solo? And if you traveled solo do you feel awkwardly alone? I like to have fun and its always nice when you have a good circle of people that you know. I've never done a solo cruise before but I've been pondering about it! Maybe for my 30th I will have more courage! ;p

The funny thing is I just booked my first cruise and I'm going solo and it's for my 30th also I look like I'm turning 21 lol ... I'm not going until Sept of 2018 but I'm so nervous and it' still a year away

I'm sort of a Solo Cruiser. I'll be traveling with my senior citizen parents. They've cruised a lot while this is my first time. They've been on a lot of the excursions (ex. ruins in Cozumel) and are not beach people. So I'll be venturing out on my own a lot, which is fine. (Nice to have a break from the folks!) But... I'm hoping to meet up with some other travelers my age (I'm 47). I'm brand spanking new to CruiseCritic so I hope to find some forums to meet other travelers on my ship. I'm still trying to figure it all out.

I am doing my first cruise on NFL Epic in February and will be solo. I am 39. I am looking forward to socializing when I want or just hang out with myself!

I joined my ships roll call and am planning on joining the M&G and pub crawl. No plans beyond that other than to enjoy myself.

Has anyone traveled solo on epic before? I would love some tips from a fellow solo on dining options.

Hello

I took my first Solo cruise when I was 50. I will be 52 when I take my next big cruise on the Vision of the Seas in May 2-14. I was just looking to see who else may be going on the cruise as well (12 NT Med). Holla if you are. If there is any info about the ship, arrival info for BCN hotels & transportation to the cruise port I would be grateful for the info. Thanks so much for your time

Cruise Critic website, and its boards are big and comprehensive - which can also make them confusing. On this Solo cruise board is a 'roll call' for solos traveling on certain dates, but there are also general Roll Calls for ships and dates - it has search options so you don't have to just scroll pages. You can add your name and perhaps get to know people a bit beforehand...but most will not be solos.

Every port also has a forum which will help with your BCN questions.

There is also a 'First time Cruiser' forum with a sub forum of 'Ask a Cruise Question' - tons of information on both forums.

Enjoy.

Hello,

I am 42 and taking my first solo cruise on Feb 12th, and have another solo book on October 20th. I am nervous and excited all at the same time for my first solo trip.

Have a great time. Think about all the choices you have and not having to compromise with anyone:D

I got off my 2nd cruise in January and am ready to cruise solo myself. I like many am in my 50's and during this cruise did some things solo since I was with my BFF that is mobility challenged due to a stroke. So a few times she chose to stay in the room and I ventured out. I agree with person that said people don't know you are alone unless you tell them you are solo. They just assume you are away from your group for the time being.

I can't wait to schedule my next cruise. It will probably be solo because most of my friends aren't able to take many vacations due to finances.

I'm thinking of booking something for late in September for my birthday but does anyone shy away from the fall due to the hurricane season?

I have sailed during hurricane season before....if it happens a storm is out there and the ship is out there too? They

always have the authority to change course. The Captain does not want to be near that storm any more than his

passengers.

Actually, you can sometimes get very good prices at that time too:)

My 1st cruise was last October, beginning of the month. I was really concerned as hurricanes had already swept thru the area, trips were canceled by the cruise companies, and some news reports about people being stuck on cruise ships because they couldn't port anywhere... but the weather as absolutely perfect during my trip.

I think my plan going forward will be land trips or cruising elsewhere during my birthday... like to Hawaii, or around the Greek islands. But who knows? I may see a good deal for the Caribbean and just grab it and hope for the best like last time! :')
