Help needed for tour - in halifax from 8 am to 4 pm in early august 2018

We are planning a small group private tour for the one day we have in Halifax. We REALLY want to get away from the tourist traps and see as much of the island and picturesque coastal fishing villages as possible. We were looking forward to visiting Lunenburg and Mahone Bay and having a nice seafood lunch. We do not need to go to Peggy's Cove since all we have heard is it is filled with buses and a lot of crowds. Since we are on a cruise and need to allow time to get off the ship and board in time to leave at 4pm, will 9am to 3pm be sufficient time for this tour? THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP ! I always trust what I learn on CC and Trip Ad.

I can't recommend highly enough...Halifax Titanic Historical Tours with Paul McNeil...Just amazing and no we didn't go to Peggy's Cove.

I live in Nova Scotia, you could rent a car and go to both those places but I'd be worried you would be rushed. I'd plan on wanting to spend a couple hours at each place. Chester is nice too. Peggy's cove is beautiful and there are other little fishing villages close as well near there.

Thanks Carocox ! We really do not want to drive. But, I will look into your suggestions closer to the port! The last thing we want is to rush to see things and have to rush back to the ship.

Don't go to fisherman's cove. While it is nice (I like to occasionally take my nan around the boardwalk) most of the cove was purposely built for tourists. And it a super ugly drive there

It is possible to go to Lunenburg and back in a day. If you go there on the back roads you can return on the highway. You should be going against traffic both ways.

We have a car rented for our port day in Halifax. We were planning to drive to Peggy’s Cove. What are the other nearby fishing villages we should go to? We are in pirt from 8-5

Sorry, did not see Peggy's Cove on the maps. Interested in surrounding villages to visit on way to or from Peggy’s Cove. Wanted names so I can look up or research. Someone in a previous post had mentioned there were other interesting villages nearby to visit
