Dawn: what are your favorite things?

Gatsby's (the bar mentioned by others) was my favorite part of the ship. The bartenders and servers there were amazing.

Since this was our first time on a smaller ship, we enjoyed having a different (short) show every night. I also had a pretty decent burger from the Bimini Grill on the first day.

If you are looking for somewhere quiet to hang out, the lounge overlooking the Atrium can be nice (I think it is on 9). You can access it via the central staircase or from the hallway on 9.

We had a great server in Aqua -- her name was Rowena. After the first time we had her, we requested her the other times we ate there.

While this wasn't our favorite ship ever, we enjoyed it enough to book it for our 2019 cruise.

I liked the coziness of the wine bar and try not to miss having a mojito at the mojito bar on deck 13 in the same place as Moderno. The margaritas and guacamole at Los Lobos were also good, that is located aft of the buffet. The best show was absolutely Elements, don't miss it. Gatsby's was popular, but you get the smoke from the casino and cigar bar if you sit to close to either.

It's been over a year, but these are things that stick out to me:

  • The Wine Classes at the Wine Bar. We attended every one, and they really made our experience special and memorable. We met great people and learned so much.
  • Richard Matic was the Cruise Director at the time. He is our absolute favorite. We would go on any ship with him in a heatbeat.
  • Los Lobos was the best food that I have ever had in any restaurant on a ship. I left in a food coma and had to walk about 3 miles that evening.
  • We really enjoyed the Cruise Director's Staff and hung out with them all day - Walk a Mile and Dance Classes each morning, crafts, trivia and goofy golf in the afternoon, weakest link and bandaoke in the evening.
  • There was Limoncello at Gatsby's Bar, and I remember drinking many Limoncello Martinis. So yummy and under the UBP limit.

A cruise is what you make of it in my opinion. Therefore, we love to live it up and do it all. Some feel that the Dawn is too small. I thought it was a nice size, and we met some great people. We were never bored in two weeks, if that says anything.

Oh! And the shows were GREAT! We enjoyed Elements, the Thrillusionist, and one of the comedians. The Irish singer at the time was not our favorite, and we did not care for Jose and Patti, but they do have quite the following. Lots of other great music in the evenings at the other bars.

Sailed the Dawn twice. Once after the refurb. I love the stadium seating sun deck. Thought it was a great spot to watch the pool deck action. Also thoroughly enjoyed Los Lobos on our recent trip.

My wife and I did miss the Spinnaker Lounge that made way for the Haven during the refurb.

Thanks for starting this thread, and to everyone for sharing. We leave this coming Sunday on the Dawn. Now I have some great ideas of “must see, do, eat & drink” things!

I'll be on the Dawn 3/18. First time with NCL. Looking forward to it. Glad to hear that there is stand up comedians on board as that's my wife's favorite part of the other cruises we have been on.

The Venetian Main dining room

Having food service on the pool deck (Bimini and the area just outside the buffet).

Buffet is a nice space and I have always found a place to sit with relative ease.

Elements is the show to see, don't miss it.

Dance classes were fun

Ceramic loungers in the Thermal Suite

What new area are you talking about? The Dawn does not have a Haven area.

That is correct.

The poster must have confused the removal of Spinnaker on Dawn/Star deck 12 with addition of suites and insides but there isn't a Haven on Dawn/Star.

Love all this info: We haven't been on the Dawn for about 5 years so know we are going to see lots of changes when we board in early May. Some one mentioned Patti and Jose, we loved them but know they left the ships a year or maybe even more ago. We do look forward to atrium entertainment and the piano bar. When we were on the Dawn I don't remember Los Lobos, so am looking forward to it.

Again thanks everyone for your update on the ship.

Also our favorite breakfast place was O’Sheehan’s it was awesome and quick. If you are a hot tub person go to the very front of the ship there is one hot tub that nobody is ever in. Keep in mind when ordering at Los Lobos the sizes of any item is HUGE! Have an amazing time!

I was just looking at Patti & Jose's website and it shows that March 25 -April 20th they will be on the Dawn out of Tampa. Then from May 18th to - June 22nd and August 27th to November 9th ..... But I would think that this would be subject to change. Jan

I am glad to have read this thread. I am considering the Dawn to Bermuda (only been on Breakaway class) for summer 2018. If anyone has sailed and has opinions, I would love to hear. There's no waterslide right?

The Dawn does not have a slide but they have a pretty cool kids area. Not sure what age your kids are. I have some pictures somewhere if you want to see them.
