Live aboard Getaway

I will post some insights and observations throughout the week

Background

Long time cruiser, multiple cruise lines , 48m . I normally roll with the ups and downs as it certainly beats working [emoji1]

Embarkation

I arrived early (9am) in hope of getting a vibe pass . I was 2nd in line at check in and received group 1. I was hopeful!!

When they started boarding, it was a bit chaotic . Priority boarding went to platinum ( me next time), and once i saw around 100 ppl board , i knew my chances of a vibe pass were slim. Despite being around 5th in group 1 boarding( a few muscled by me ) , the vibe passes were indeed sold out . So unless you’re platinum or in the haven , enjoy your sleep in and skip the early arrival . Group 1 doesn’t help anymore

Studio cabin , i like the set up and it works perfect for my needs

I added $850 in OBC, only$300 has shown up . Hopefully resolved later. Bring receipts!!. I also added the soda pass and that also didn’t register

Super Bowl was fun, bought some boxes at the casino and unfortunately didn’t win . Everywhere was packed for the game and I’m sure there are plenty of sore heads today . It was a bit concerning seeing people who could barely stand being served shot after shot. I also saw a few women staggering around solo who had no idea where they were . I’m all for letting your hair down on a cruise but serving completely intoxicated-guests is a bit extreme .

I bought the thermal pass and as usual it is a great escape . Well worth the money

Weather is beautiful, food is good and it’s a Monday without the cold and work . Life is good

I've never done NCL, but have a Getaway cruise booked.

How is the smoking on board? I've watched a lot of walk-thru videos and it looks like a ton of stuff is DIRECTLY attached to the casino. A couple of the dining options, the Bliss club, and the 6-7-8 atrium are connected. I'm really hoping this isn't a smoke pit.

I’m looking into a TransAtlantic on the Getaway in 2019 so I’m enjoying your posts[emoji274][emoji274]

Can you tell me what a “vibe pass” is?

Thankyou very much and keep enjoying your cruise!!

Vibe is a private area with a bar , loungers and cabanas . They come around with cool towels and fruit skewers . Hopefully the photo attached . It’s a nice place . Unfortunately, i didn’t get in and an resorted to stalking outside taking photos [emoji1]

Unfortunately when the casino is busy , it’s not pleasant to walk thru or within drinking distance of

Following. Will be on board 6/3/18.

You answered my only question: Access to Vibe passes. We are at the bottom of the priority barrel so we will arrive at a leisurely pace & not rush.

Ok, one more question: any excursions planned? Keep us posted, good or bad.

Thanks! :)

Hope you have a fantastic cruise, I’ll be following for sure as my family is booked for the 2/18 sailing. Will you be posting pics of the Freestyle Dailies?

Cagneys for dinner

I have the 3 meal UDP and used one up for tonight. Food was excellent, service was good . 8oz filet was amazing , crab cakes for appetizer and a chocolate cake to die for . You still get presented with a check even though the balance was zero . I’m guessing it’s for an additional tip !!. No big deal , well worth an extra $10-20

As a long time cruiser with very low requests , I’m feeling something a little off compared to previous cruises on NCL. The staff are a little brusque. I waited for 20 minutes in the casino for help with a jammed machine . When he did arrive, it felt like i had disturbed him from a nap !!.

I’m also still waiting for $375 of OBC to show up on my account ,which is a tad frustrating. I was told I’d hear back this afternoon but i followed up with guest services and was told to keep checking back . I have receipts and am not sure what the delay is. Hopefully sorted out soon as that’s my gambling money

So after day two , the highlights are the weather , the food and that I’m away from 20degree weather.

The lowlights are my missing $$, the lack of concern for my missing $$ and some of the staff who are probably on their last months before going home.

The comedian is an Asian guy who i saw at the first night briefly , i didn’t find him overly funny but I’ll give him another shot later .

Off to the thermal spa for an evening sauna before catching some music .

All in all , still better than shoveling snow and working 8-5

Question re cell service:

If you connect your phone to ships wifi, but phone on Airplane mode, can you use IMessage for free?

this worked for me on RCI Harmony and Regal Princess

I haven’t tried . I have the unlimited package but i do remember what you’re mentioning working for me in the past . Unfortunately i needed to finish a work project and needed more constant connection.

Just arriving in a cloudy Honduras. No excursions planned as I’ve been here many times . Just going to go for a ramble and find a local restaurant.

Day 3 and still no sign of my missing OBC !!. A little disappointed at the lack of response . The buck has been passed to Miami and there is nothing they can do . Printing receipts and the amenities purchased prior to sailing is of little use onboard . Just a heads up

Fantastic buffet for breakfast . Something for everyone. The staff are very pleasant in this area . Going around topping up coffee is a nice touch , especially since it takes me 4-5 cups to wake up. Still amazed to see people use their hands to grab food from the buffet . Really !!!

I Will be on in just a few weeks. Too bad about the Vibe, I should have been Platinum my last cruise but I had medical emergency and had to cancel 2 days before leaving. I will try like you to get there early and getting a pass, I have always enjoyed this area of the ship. How does the studio common area look? I booked a studio this time around. I had done a studio a few years ago and did not care for it but going to give it a second chance.

Here's a thought... have you tried the extension of the vibe bar just outside the vibe doors? The bartenders in the vibe are amazing, they make the experience! And those same guys wait the part outside the vibe. Also has the same padded chairs. May be great place to chill without the Vibe antics. Last time we were on there were some terrible drunks that ruined the vibe for me. And I'm a drinker for sure! They made a bacon Bloody Mary that my DH had for breakfast every morning and a top shelf margarita that was to die for. Enjoy!!
