Oasis Of The Seas Fire!

Small fires like this happen on almost every new ship build. No big deal. Pretty common.

No biggie.

This made me think of the fire that occurred on Voyager when she was being built. I love how dramatic it is in the 3-part Voyager videotape.

I would imagine that this type of fire "could" be possible on the building of any ship. So let all take a wiff around deck 9(I think they said deck 9) on the inagural voyage to see if we can smell it!!! :D

Fire on Oasis of the Seas

Reports are indicating that a fire broke out earlier today on Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas while under construction in Finland. Apparently, some insulation caught fire as a result of some nearby welding activity. All 1500 workers were evacuated and the fire was dealt with by the shipyard's fire fighters shortly after.

The fire was able to spread from deck 9 to some upper decks but the damage is being described as not extensive. Hopefully this doesn't delay the launch of the ship. So far there has been no statement from Royal Caribbean.

I found it interesting that the article said "rare" and that even on the refit special we saw on the TV on our last cruise they had welding fires almost daily

Welding fires are not rare at all in the building of cruise ship. They were mistaken.
