Your reasoning to cove or not to cove balcony?

I know for sure there is no lifeboat directly in front of our cove, not sure about The galley.

 

Only 7 more months until I can put on a cove review :cool:

The cove balconies without life boats above them have vents that blow into the balconies. We had 2309 on the Magic in December and the incinerator smell was so noxious the balcony was unusable. Google your cabin number to see if any comments have been made about the smells.

 

I think people get coves because they want a balcony and it's the cheapest balcony you can get.

That was exactly what a PVP we once used told us. We had been regular balcony pax in the past and she told us that we would probably be unhappy in a cove as the opening is cut out of the sheet metal in the hull and it has a very closed in feeling. When we saw one (on the Breeze cabin crawl back in 2012 - we totally agreed - it was dark, obstructed and totally a different feeling from a regular balcony). She also told us that the folks who most liked the coves would likely be pax who traditionally booked OV or inside cabins, as this was a 'step up' and one could access the 'outside air'. We have chosen to stick with our regular mid ship balcony (on Deck 8 for more privacy on Dream class/Vista class ships due to Promenade below). To each his own as they say! Just our opinion!

I'm so crazy I booked a balcony on deck 6 of Magic that has the extended deck 5 below. I saw a news story where a kid fell from one of those and only broke an arm or something. I was worried about our 5 year old.

deck five can look up into your balcony on the Magic. Be sure you are not over the bar b q. smoke came into ours during the hours it was open. very little privacy on deck 6. hot tubs with people under you in some areas. look at the deck plans.

Does 2310 have a lifeboat over it? On Panorama. 

Looking at the deck plan, it looks like there is a lifeboat above 2310.

We had booked many balconies before booking a cove but the cove is one of our favorite balconies. the four times that we have sailed on the Dream class ships we have booked the cove and have a cove booked for our upcoming November cruise. Just our opinion.

We have booked cove balcony's on the Dream, Magic, and Breeze, have another

booked for Aug on the Breeze again, My favorite, like they say closer to the water

sometimes see dolphins, flying fish, and pier runners, lol,  love them IMAO. 

I've had the typical Balcony,  L shaped balcony and Cove.

L shape is my favorite simply for the extended balcony,  Cove second (loved the seclusion and shade when facing the sun as well as being lower to the water), and regular balcony is nice as well.

Only thing I didn't like about the Cove was it's distance from the Ledo deck.

99% of the time we purchase a balcony or suite. Price not a huge factor. But we 'downgraded' to a Cove, not because of price, but because of the view. When we first purchased, we were on deck 6. The cove was a few hundred cheaper. Guess what? We 'downgraded' and had to pay more, lol! 

I've looked at the deck plans a few times but I don't understand how to read them, and i don't see anything for the galley listed anywhere. How can you tell if your cabin is below the galley or not? I'm booked in 2378. 

I haven't brought myself to try one yet. Two things I don't like:

- Being on a lower level: It is such a hike to get from your room to the lido or anywhere else other than the atrium. I try to avoid the elevators as much as possible so I'm not waiting around and getting at least some exercise on the stairs.

- Paying more for a room: We do balconies sometimes. They just aren't worth the price usually to me. We just don't sit there.

Now it would be really cool to see some dolphins up close

Wow, then I wouldn't have "downgraded" for sure.....but it does make a difference when you originally booked and the price at that time vs. changing cabins (upgrading or downgrading) and the timeline of that move (is the ship filling up? driving prices up? closer to the date of the cruise?)....all of these variables of course, affect the pricing.

You hit them all, closer to cruise and cruise filling up. We decided after watching the videos.. We love the water.

stayed wet.

I'm used to many venues on the lower levels beside the atrium: Red Frog Pub, Sports Bar, Piano Bar, Alchemy Bar, Theatre, MDR, and Casino all come to mind.  Upper decks are great for Lido, Spa, Fitness, and Serenity, but a hike for the evening options.

We were deck 2 on our last cruise and liked being closer to more venues (but generally prefer middle decks to balance the stairs).
