Holland America Lays Keel for Nieuw Statendam Cruise Ship

Over eight months since the first steel was cut for the bow section.

Would be nice if they included pictures of the actual laying of the keel, also as the ship was been build. Would be nice to watch as it goes from the keel up to the finished ship.

I'm not sure whether that means much, anymore. The maxim for all large-scale construction is evolving to a recognition that it is better to have everything you need to build what you're building all set out and ready to go, finished as much as they can be finished as individual pieces, doing as much as possible while those pieces are more manageable in size. If it wasn't that major sub-assemblies cannot logistically be build off to the side and moved into place, I bet they'd do it with skyscrapers as well.
