Cuban Rum

Havana Club 7 seems to be popular at about 12 cuc a bottle.

There is also the Havana club maestros, very nice rum but in the 30 cuc range.

If you want something to mix with coke the the basic Havana club will work. About 5 cuc a bottle

Everything you ever need to know about Cuban rum.

Could you tell me the average cost of a bottle? I have a friend who would like me to bring back a bottle. Sorry, we are not drinkers, so I have no clue.

Thanks,

Many of the local Cubans that we spoke with recommended Santiago rum, but we were not able to find any. Other passengers did locate a bottle, but only after checking out several stores.

The Havana Club 3 year is drinkable and quite inexpensive. Likely under 8 CUC for big bottle. As noted above, the Havana Club 7 year is also popular, but at 2x the price of the 3 year.

Most rums come in 30cL, 70cL and 1L sizes, though a 70cL bottle won’t necessarily be 2x the cost of the smaller bottle.

Across the street from the terminal and a few blocks to the left (north, I think) is the Havana Club Museum.

They have a retail space attached. I did not have time to tour or do detailed comparisons as they were closing, and I knew exactly what I wanted.

I would expect you could find the best selection of that particular brand there, its an easy walk to the ship.

If you end up with some extra CUCs, there is also a rum store in the cruise terminal, but with limited selection, and unreliable hours.

Havana Club also has a very interesting history - you can Google it, but Bacardi also makes a "Havana Club" rum in Puerto Rico, supposedly the same recipe, but to purists it is substandard because it is not made with Cuban sugar.

are you allowed to sample rum at these stores?

NOt in any of the stores we visited.

Best find a bar and have the barman line up his recommendations.

This is what we did, came home with Havana club 7

We particualy liked the Havana club Maestros, but it was too expensive.
